New CBR125

Noticed that my local Honda dealer has the new CBR125 on their website priced at £3170. It's a bigger bike, probably not as quick as the R125, but at that price point it'll give the Yamaha a good run for it's money.

It's still a heck of a lot of cash for a 125 though. In fact the new CBF I bought last year was a lot of cash for a 125. Hindsight - a wonderful thing!

9.8kW as well - it's not even maxing out at the 11kW learner limit.

TBH, I've never really understood why 'themed' 125s (sports, cruiser) sell - I'd have thought that anyone getting one really wants to be on the Big Boy version, and would be better off spending the money on doing their test instead. Confused

I think it looks naff IMO - like most of hondas new stuff, the designs hideous (big front, small rear) and the graphics guys who are designing the schemes must of been smoking some heavy sh*t when they came up with them. The CBR600RR with the girl on the side, and lipstick marks for the 600 decals... Sick

I don't think Honda have any real plan about their new range.

They got rid of the CG125 which everyone raves about and replaced it with the CBF125 for £2k which has a pointless fairing that most learners will break when they drop it the first time so it'll always look tatty.

You then have the CBR125 for £3k which looks just wrong, and then the Varadero which looks OK but is £4.5k. What sort of nutty learner is going to pay £4.5k for a bike that they will probably drop sometime, and if the rider has a licence £4.5k will buy you a nice second hand 600 and pay for the insurance as well.

Then Honda has a gap in the range until you reach 600cc bikes and you can buy a CBF600 for just under £6k, a much better buy than a new Varadero.

Why don't Honda bring a midrange bike into Europe?
They already sell a CB300R (looks like a small Hornet) in Brazil that produces about 27 bhp, with very little work they could probably produce a 350cc version that would just fit within the restricted licence for a reasonable price and would probably sell very well.

I admit that its a nice-ish bike, but then the cost is horrific. Considering the majority of 125 owners are learners, they should get a cheap bike for under £500 and get a full license.

I've seen bigger bikes a lot cheaper than that. I wonder who actually likes buying these new?
