Hi

We are migrating from Novell GroupWise to Microsoft Outlook

I have created the packages to remove GroupWise and install Outlook and all works well.

The problem I have is that I can't remove the default mail profile from the client machines and this stops Outlook opening.

I need to do this with a LANDesk run batch file that imports a reg key and I have tried the following:

Copy to local machines:

@echo off
md c:\profilereg
xcopy /s \\sqlsut02\Packages\Office_2007\Outlook_Deployment\profilereg c:\profilereg
c:\profilereg\novellreg.bat
exit

To run the reg key install:

@echo off
regedit /s c:\profilereg\novellprofiledel.reg
exit

The reg keys:

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles]
"DefaultProfile"="Novell Default Settings"
[-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2720991719-3395378957-1752411362-9057\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles]"Novell Default Settings"

So the files all copy over and can be run from the machines manually but when done by deployment it doesn't import the reg changes

Am I doing something wrong? Can you suggest a better way?

Thanks for the help in advance

CE

I tried this mate...
To be honest running all the things I tried manually worked..

Just seems when deployed with LANDesk or any another deployment it stops working...

Also when I removed the default profile it worked for that user but any other uses that logged on had the novel profile still...

Any more ideas?

Is your packaging software running as it's own user? If so thats why the current user tag isn't working.

Are you sure the second one is correct? You've no dataitem in it.

Could you execute a vbscript file that makes the relevant registry changes?

Try: -

reg import c:\profilereg\novellprofiledel.reg

If you're still having problems I can knock up a vb script for you.

Sorry seen you tried reg import sounds like a permissions error. I don't use Landesk. This may help - https://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-2417

Do you use Zenworks? you can push out registry changes with ease using it.

I may be wrong but Isn't that the key for a specific user?

Would it not be bettter to change the S-1-5-21-2720991719... key to HKEY_CURRENT_USER? (which should then be the current user logged in)

Also, have you tried running each step of your batch file manually on a machine through the command prompt (as I don't see a command to copy the .reg file to the desktop machine)

Hi

It is now all sorted.

panrider_uk created me a vb script to try but I still had issues

Then it came to me. Rather than delete the old Novell profile I could repackage the Outlook client to force a new Outlook profile..

Wanst thinking the end of last week.

Thanks to you all that gave advice and tried to help

Appreciated

I think that might be a step backwards, ZCM 11 is very VERY good.

Well MS Exchange is fairly good but Windows Server is still playing catchup with Novell 4.1 IMO
