Well my plan was to save up until next year and get myself a Yamaha Thundercat around the £2,000-£2,500 and get rid of my current bike.

However just been browsing the web and see these bike can go from £900 - £1500 so would it be worth getting a cheaper one and keep my old bike as a commuter in order to keep the Thundercat cleaner or would i get a lot more for the extra £1000?

What do you want a thundercat for? Pleasure?
well they make great commuters, my dad is selling one £800-900 its got 40k and has a few scrapes on fairings but all it was used for was getting to work.

..afriend of mine has a Thundercat he bought for less than a grand. It has 20k on the clock and looks absolutely mint! I would say it depends on how it is looked after....

but if you want to spend more get this one.....it looks great, is over priced but is in pretty much mint condition...

..or this one which looks even better....

I've always found having 2 bikers very beneficial.

When something goes wrong with a car, it can be fixed relatively quickly due to the availability of parts from various parts factors.

When a bike goes wrong, from my experience it means going to my local dealer, ordering the part and waiting up to a week for the parts to arrive.

Saying that I had to go to work last year on my good bike for a week as the ER6 coils had gone (warranty repair job). I was annoyed because I didn't want to take my Z out in the rain.

Does it HAVE to be a thundercat? You can get very good examples of ZX-6RG/J's for a lot less than what you quoted for and in my opinion, they're better bikes.... least better value for money. Surprisingly comfortable and very frugal with fuel and consumables. Instigator had a few examples and regularly got 50mpg out of his. Same with my old F3.

If you like them, just buy a Thundercat for £1200-£1500 and save the rest for looking after it. No point in having 2 bikes just because you can afford it.

All i want is a nice bike that i can use for fun and as backup if my main bike fails or 1 bike that i can use all the time thats practical

Also a comfy seat the reason i was looking at the thundercat as that its not a lean over the tank job with a hard seat, orr am i missing a lot of bikes out here?

This. You can get a decent Thundercat for not much more than £1k if you look properly.

i think you need atleast 2 bikes, 3 or 4 is best
1 commuter,
2 back up for when commuter breaks down
3 tourer
4 weekend bike

a couple of them can double up Very Happy and its always good to have an off/on road bike in there

It never hurts to have more than one bike, as I have found out the hard way. If i were spending the same as you I would go for the two bike option too.

It's not so bad with one car, you can nip to a garage in the morning and they will usually have the bits before the end of the day. With a bike you have to drop it off to a garage for a week or wait 2/3 days for Wemoto/Silvers to post what you need. Not good when you need to get to work and your rectifier has blown up!

It depends what your commute is like, but generally, I like to have one bike thats good for fast stuff at weekends, and a smaller bike for commuting around town.

So yeah, I'd say split the budget.
