Laptop randomly turning off

I never turn my laptop off.

But since Novemeber I have had the problem of the fans coming on, then it just turning off.

I used to have it sat on a stool, and my legs when using it, then it turn to just the stool, now I've had to turn the stool upside down and never on my legs so it will stay on.

What the hell is the problem?

Sounds like its overheating.

Give the fans/heatsink a blast of air.

Laptops tend to be susceptible to a build up of hair, dust, grease, manmilk and all sorts of gunk. If I were you, open it up and look at the heatsink. There will most likely be a moustache around one side of it. Peel it off and as above, give it a blast of air.

Getting in most laptops is pretty easy - just Google "disassemble Acer Porn-lap-2000" or whatever model yours is. Most times you get in by a small cover running along the top of the keyboard, then take the keyboard out, then you can see the heatsink and fan unit.

Deffo overheating. I had exactly the same thing happen on an old Toshiba a few years ago. Clean out the heatsink and fans as they will definitely have a wad of dust all over them. If it's still failing, get yourself a usb powered 'laptop cooler' from fleabay for a few quid.

I concur use a can compressed air through the vents to blast out the build up dust that has been sucked in over a long period of time....!

Use short blasts from the can while the laptop is switched off because it's extremely cold air that you woud be blowing across it!

Be careful when using the air......

All you could do is force the "fluff mouzzy" back into the laptop and possibly clog the fan stopping it completely. Seen and smelt it happen.

As previously mentioned, you will need to access the heatsink from the "in" side of it and remove the fluff that is covering it.

You need to follow the airflow path through the fan and find the heatsink mate.

dont stick anything through the fan to try and clean out the fluff you will only kill it

You could use a paintbrush to help dislodge the crap.

I just stuck the hoover on it, then on the air ducts.

Seems to have worked.
