Trying to help a friend out, he needs this scooter to get to work, trouble is, its been sat in a garage for about 3-4 years.

The bike ran and worked fine before it was stored, first thing i did was give it power, and gave the leccy start a go, all i got was a slight 'click'.

So i thought id give the kickstart a go, but this was solid as a rock.

Now before i waste my time, taking the side cover off to see if the mechanisms are fine, am i actually wasting my time ?

Can an engine seize from just siting there ?

if it was ok when it was parked up, theres no reason it should be now seized.
remove the spark plug & chuck some oil into it & leave it overnight, them SLOWLY try to move the flywheel or kick start.
charge the battery upovernight as well,
cheers,
GAZ

would it be a good idea to remove the cover to check the variator and clutch ?

I could always use a ratchet to move the crankshaft manually ?

pop some penetrating oil or wd40 down the plug hole and let it sit for a bit,

try again with the kick start, if it still doesnt move then try by hand on the crank

Jets in the carb have probably blocked up if it's been sitting for a while.
Clean out the carb, put a new spark plug in and the battery will be flat so either charge it up or replace it.

New plug, clean the carb, new petrol. it should fire up. My RXS starter first time after I did this and it had been sat for 5 years.

When my CG seized up, kickstart wouldn't move etc, stuck a bit of diesel oil down the plug hole and left it overnight, and it was perfect after that Thumbs Up

Just remember to change the oil Rolling Eyes

Edit: what scooter is it? more importantly, 2t or 4t?

If it's 2t you'd probably be best off ripping the head off and replacing the rings, because it's seized up from sitting there, the barrel and piston should be fine.

If it's a 4t, it should be fine, long as you don't boot the kickstart down and bugger the barrel.
