Datatool System 21 keeps going off

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with the alarm on my ZX6R (2006). I bought the bike a few days ago, for the first few days the bike was fine, then yesterday morning the alarm went off for no apparent reason.

Later in the day I installed an optimate 4 charger cable. I went out for a ride for a couple of hours and parked the bike up, not a peep. I then got home, gave the bike a wash and put her in the garage. A few hours later and the bike started going off for about 10-15 seconds. I ran out to find nothing wrong and rearmed the bike and went back in only for it to go off as I was walking to the house. This has been the case ever since.

If I arm the bike, the alarm goes off after about 5-10 seconds. The service mode code indicates it's the movement sensor. If I press the oval to disable it, the bike does not go off.

The bike was stored, apparently on a trickle charger for a long time before I bought it.

So far I've sprayed some WD-40 in a few connectors and the control box, changed the orientated of the box and replaced the fuse but none of this has helped.

Any one got anything else I can try?

I think it is a battery issue, does it need a new one?

I had this issue last year, the cold had killed the 9v battery inside the alarm. I replaced it and it seems to be fine now. It is an old Datatool Veto+ though, so no real security on the alarm internals. I'm not sure if a system 21 would be trickier to get inside of.

most probly the battery they dont last long with alarms attached to them when the battery starts going flat they start beeping,and going off like you described try getting a new battery or charging it up.....Oh good luck

The battery has been replaced at some point, as it was a bosch (halfords?). The bike has been on my optimate for the last three days when not in use and it shows it's all good. The battery also holds charge and cranks fine. The alarm also goes off with my optimate attached and not. I'll put a multimeter across the terminals tommorow to see what it's putting out.

I'll also have a look at the 9v battery see if that's putting out the right power.

Update: All sorted.

I checked the bike battery and it was putting out healthy voltages. I checked the battery inside the alarm and the contacts were corroded but after a clean up was putting out a good charge.

I rang the datatool tech support guys and he walked me through things to check. Turns out the motion sensor on the board had failed. I managed to buy a new, full system off ebay for a fraction of getting the alarm taken out or replaced. Was fairly easy getting the old PCB out of the case, the new one had a fair bit of silicone sealant I had to cut off till It freed. I swapped in the new PCB with the old case and loom and it now works how it should.
