now shees back in my workshop i aim to restore it as well as i can, its last mot was in 1999 and its done 9 miles since then and you can tell, there is alot of surface rust but nothing really bad but rubber seals and the like are all gone,

first job will be to tidy my workshop and set up my tools then start to dismantle and restore

luckily the very nice man chucked these in with it

You do have to wonder what was going through designers heads in the late 80's / early 90's with the pant schemes.

Laughing

All the best with this project and keep us posted with the progress.

I've often thought of this with powder coating as it could hide the ID of the bike?

When powder coating, you could either put a little masking tape over the number before it gets sprayed, or note where the number is, scrape off the powder coating where it is and then paint over with some clear lacquer.

well without going into to much detail (not got to strip down the bike yet) i have had a few idea's on what to do.

pretty much will go like this

strip down bike

rebuild bike replacing parts as and when required

there is not going to be any awsome super turbo or flashy add ons just back to how she is but in a nice paint scheme, only upgrade it will get that it does not already have (if i can get one) is the powervalve servo etc (mine is pegged)

ok so not really an update as such but, i have looked lightly over the bike and the main things to start on is frame and forks so in the next couple of days i will start to fully dissasemble.

then the plan is to get the frame into powdercoat at the earlyest possible conveniance (restricted to money) both frame and swing arm will go together on the basis i can then rebuild in a timely order so to speak, starting with new bushes etc for swing arm.

(thinking powder coating in candy blue and panneling in matt black with grey graphics) opinions welcome......

at the same time knowing my forks are pitted beyond passing mot and also knowing they need new seals etc i will either buy new or rechrome existing ones (waiting on price from a.b.e.)

Hi

Not sure on powder coating a frame blue. Might be just me, but I tend not to like frames painted in non neutral colours (black, silver or white, red at a stretch) unless it is matching the paintwork and very difficult to get the paint and powder coating to match.

All the best

Keith

so i am off to a slow start, i decided to tydy my workshop a bit today after moving house and get some of the tools sorted out,

then i decided to put the new front inner tube in my chinese winter hack, while i was out there i thought i would look over the tzr

i have decided to have the forks rechromed and that will be the first job and also have the frame powdercoated and will be keeping the frame silver, so i took of the side panels at the back also the seat and the fuel tank.
the frame looks alot tidyer than i thought and luckily shouldnt be away for to long when it goes for powder coating.

i took the air box of to have a look over the engine and although dirty does not "look" to bad. When i picked her up the guy said after the mot (22nd october 1999) she was parked up and never ridden again,

out of curiosity i pluged in a fuel line to a test rig fuel tank and gave her a kick

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL0n94tv5c0

only time will tell on true engine condition but she sounds sweet to me

got a few hours today and continueing on the engine start sucsess i thought i would check the water pump was working and the oil pump was working,

only problem i had was the bike wouldent idle properly and there was fuel pissing out the carbs overflows so i set to work cleaning it out etc

https://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/189844_10150124295638846_741698845_6514158_6768925_n.jpg

https://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/200413_10150124295773846_741698845_6514159_651314_n.jpg

as you can see it is pretty grubby as i expected after nearly 12 years stood,

i cleaned and degreaced all the surface crap out of the float bowl etc and striped the main jet, float's etc. This is when i came upon my first problem, the idle jet is comleatly blocked and also compleatly solid the head is some what destroyed which means will be very dificult to remove,

so after cleaning up and putting back together i pluged it on my test rig and filled with fuel which leads to the second problem, fuel still pissing out the over flows?????

after scratching my head a bit i put it on the bike and kicked it over and the plus side is 2t is coming from the auto lube and the coolant was being pummped out the carb warmer hoses so job done but now i need to look at my carb options

A: replace carb (if i can find one)

B: Try and recon this one (might need engeneering help)

C: find another carb that will fit (or be made to fit) this bike

advise and oppinions very welcome

now i have in idea on condition of engine i will start to strip the bike Mr. Green

the original tzr 125 2rk was from 1987-1989 when it was superseded in 1989 by the 3pc1 model (cosmetics)

begining of 1990 introduced the 3pc2 the front break caliper was revised and the rear drum was changed to a disc. and a change in wheel design accepting tubeless tyres.

then in 1991 it was changed to 3pc3 with upgraded cosmetics.

so infact you are wrong and we are right Razz

get your facts right!!

so today i decided to test and check all my electrics on the bike none of them work and this is the offending article

https://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/199151_10150131628393846_741698845_6574442_6288072_n.jpg

so i put another motorcycle battery on which i have kicking around and put it on charge

https://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/188745_10150131628508846_741698845_6574443_1556250_n.jpg

only problem is this ones defunked to as you can see a reading of 7.85 volts

https://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/190421_10150131628658846_741698845_6574446_7751782_n.jpg

so i leave it on charge for an hour or so and allthough this battery is also defunked it held enough charge to test the electrical system

https://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/197701_10150131628723846_741698845_6574448_7804196_n.jpg
https://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/197931_10150131628798846_741698845_6574449_5104957_n.jpg

everything seems to work ok but testing did show one or two points electricaly that will need rectifying,

first is the right hand switch gear you have to jiggle to get the main beam on so probably just conections needing a clean.

obviously my battery is compleatly dead so needs replacing.

and the 2 brake light switches are sticking so they need cleaning up or replacing.

the only things left to test now is the temperature sensor and also the thermostat these will be done in the next few days the the strip down begins
