Posted: 23:21 - 28 Feb 2011 Post subject: DVLA question, sorn REALLY overdue! |
 |
|
Bike been off the road for few years, been moved around in temporary accomodation etc for long time. Been at current address for 3 years but and am just now starting to catch-up and sort out the chaos.
Last time I sorned the bike was about 5 years ago at a very old address. (have just worked this out and shat myself panicking!!!!)
Am trying to sort the bike out and it has popped into my head that i have not updated my address with the DVLA. . . .nor have I sorned my bike.
Any advice about how to go about this. As soon as I update my address with them the crap will hit the fan with regards to my SORN so any advice on preparation would be most welcome.
Thanks ____________________ smile and be happy. . . .it gets right on everyone's tits! |

^^^^ this
Or, if you don't need the possible crap entailed in keeping up the pretence, 'sell' it to a mate, let them register and SORN it, then 'buy' it back in 6 months. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

Indeed, best not to contact them, I'd say.
If you get any official court stuff through, pay attention, otherwise ignore.
Anyone know Scotsman's address, might send round some 'fines' myself, for hisanti-British communist views or something .
There's no way they could give you a hard time registering another vehicle due to an un paid sorn request for money. They will happily give a V5 to someone that is known to have stolen the bike, so don't think an out standing request for you to send them a monetary gift is going to mean much! |

You BIG cry baby, now go back to school and learn something about why the state needs money to fund projects to maintain roads, etc, for road users. Also, that's why the SORN was created so as not to penalise people not using that particular vehicle on the road. |
I think a) you're mixing up 'Vehicle Excise Duty' with a request for a gift of money to the DVLA (Sorn) and b) failing to understand how taxes and duties generally work. (For most cases, including this one, it all goes in to one big pot and is then redistributed.)
As I believe was shown from a previous thread, I well understand the government needs a hell of a lot more money than it's getting.
However, the reality is that few people will choose to just give more money to the government, especially when it's through a rather questionable agency such as the DVLA.
If you believe it's important, why don't YOU give them some extra money?
SORN was created purely TO penalise people. How can you create something NOT to penalise people who are taxing their vehicles, when they aren't penalised in the first place?
There was already enough laws in place in relation to penalising people who used their vehicles on the road. This new law just allowed these people to send money to the DVLA more easily if they wanted to or felt intimidated about it. |
