Just bought a new tv to replace the shite one i have and i want to know do i need to buy a HDMI wire to play XBOX 360 in HD? Or some other wire? Embarassed

Depends if your 360 has an HDMI port, if it does (Any black colour 360 does, anyone bought in like the last 3(?) years will.

If so, yup all you need is an HDMI cable, don't be a mug and buy an expensive one, they're all essentially the same.

if you have the component cable check if their is a small switch on the block that goes into the back of the xbox.... it should say something like HDTV on one side and TV on the other. Switch it to HDTV then check the settings on your dashboard to make sure you are outputting in 1080P!

HDMI works better if you can get one though!

Hmm might be, I always thought it was a hardware limitation of Component but just had a quick look and seems not, oh well, HDMI is the way to go anyway.

Don't spend over the odds on an HDMI cable either - get a 2m length from amazon. Cheapo one will do, digital signal, so no difference in quality to a more expensive cable!

Xbox 360 playback of HD movies is supposedly not as detailed as Playstation 3's Blu-Ray due to the fact that Microsoft reduced the processing load on their system as it couldn't handle it because it created overheating problems before going to manufacture and I guess that is why it's only 1080i rather than 1080p, but unsure if the newer Xbox 360s have resolved this problem or not?

Yeah I got a £2 HDMI cable from Ebay, works a treat great picture.

My dad got like a £30 odd pound one and we compared them on a bigger tv, could'nt see a difference!

Component allows for 1080P aswell...

Xbox's only have a DVD drive so a bit confused as to how they play HDfilms? If by streaming then the limit is probably the bandwidth.

If your router is nearby then connect your xbox to it. Then you can view all your avi files on your PC (which is connected to the same router), on your TV, through your xbox.

You used to be able to get a HD drive for them. Quite a few folks on AV Forums trade the HD DVDs and use the 360 as the player.

not strictly true, VGA has been out since near enough launch and it can display 1080p.
