decent oil suggestions

Gonna be servicing my 97 kwak zzr600 next week, I would like to put some decent oil in, any suggestions to a decent brand, rather than the usual castrol stuff etc? Very Happy

I use Silkolene Comp 4 10W 40 Motorcycle Engine Oil, I rate it highly. Not the cheapest though. Thumbs Up

I use guardian semi-synthetic. It's good value and fine quality for an older bike. It's not silly money either. It's made by Rock Oil

Are you suggesting Castrol is not decent, or that you just fancy a change? Oil is not something to try and be fashionable with!

Even if you fancy a change, the Castrol motorcycle site is worth a look.

No i am not suggesting castrol is not decent! And no I am not trying to be fashionable with my oil, infact I did not know people did try to be fashionable with oil.
I normally pay for my servicing, so not 100% sure what make of oil goes in it, I have decided to do it myself this year, so was just looking for suggestions, if castrol turns out to be best then castrol it will be!!

I use Nutec oil but I will use Kawasaki genuine oil next time.

I normally use the Hein Gericke offer when it runs of £20 for semi synth 10w40 and filter.

But my last change I used some Motul + filter combo from busters for £25

not sure I could stomach £35 just for oil personally. Regular changes will be of more benefit

Castrol GTX semi synthetic is £3 per litre and £10 for 4 litres at ASDA Thumbs Up

Taken from the Castrol website, a lower viscosity oil actually helps acceleration, I wouldn't have thought it'd make that much difference, especially not 2.9s worth.

It's not just about viscosity but also friction management. At the Ten Kate Fireblade launch, Ronald TK himself stated that the oil they use gives them extra power (he didn't say how much) and this is the cheapest tuning you will ever do.

There is no bad brand of oil. If you want to spend more and get the best oil, then get a fully synthetic oil in the correct grade, which is probably 10W40. Recommended oil for it will be semi-synthetic, which is more than suitable to last the recommended oil change interval.

I think it's Wilkinson's that do 4 or 5 litres of semi for £10.

Will probably get some for my ER if ASDA don't have any cheap Castrol in.
