Hi

I've picked up a Zip 50 recently and just wanted to know if it is normal for the rear wheel to be rotating slowly whilst on the centre stand.

When i first start it up in the morning, the auto choke kicks in and its revving fairly high making the wheel spin fast, but when it slows down or is warm, it does rotate.

Normal or what do i need to do to rectify the matter.

yeah its common for it to move a little bit very slowly. If its actually moving fast enough to move the bike you need to adjust the Idle Screw to change the idling speed.

Thanks for that.

I think i might have a quick play with the idle screw and see if i can get it slightly slower.

I have found also sometimes after stopping at a junction that the engine seems to rev excessively. Would it be the same issue with the idle screw?

yes it possible. the idle screw should be adjusted when the engine is warmed up obviously after 10 mins of riding then adjusted it properly

My friend has a Piaggio Zip and his does the exact same to yours. When its on its centre stand on idle the rear wheel slowly moves around. So I think this should be normal Smile But yeah you can adjust your idle speed if you feel the need to.

its normal for the rear wheel on any scoot to spin slowly. Just don't set the revs high or the clutch will be burnt out!

My rear wheel on my speedfight doesn't spin slowly around... so it doesn't happen on all scooters. And it sits on about 1.5/2k revs.

1.2k to 1.4k is ideal. 2k is rather high.

Hmm I will try setting it at 1.2k/1.4k. Does it really make a difference though?

It seems like your fuel/air mixture is running a bit too rich in fuel, either that or the idle speed screw is giving out too many RPM's on idle. I would firstly adjust the idle speed screw to see if it makes any difference.

Its just a cover, the older models have a tube going into it allowing air flow, to cool inside the casing.
It will run the same without it, but i would recommend getting it replaced, because you don't want any stones or anything falling in there. Very Happy
