https://www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk/

Gocompare, money supermarket and then the independents like directline etc.

I.e. do the whole lot and hope for the best.

Bike insurer is good but put a fake mobile number in during the quotes.

You want something to cry about? The cheapest insurance quote I've been offered this year (and the one that I accepted) came from Carole Nash. Seriously, WTF?

Insuring the R1 this year was like a joke.

My insurer last year (Express) offered me a mere £150 (£1150 FC) increase as their best price, then got well stoppy when I called to cancel. Offered to beat it but refused to explain why they'd said it was their best offer. Couldn't get close to the other quotes anyway.

I used the aggregators, got a quote of £600, but couldn't buy it due to "problems with their webpage". Rang them, was told couldn't take it as "problems with their computer system"... Was asked to call back. Came back, quote had mysteriously changed. Lying cunts.

In the end, got it from MCE for £650, a saving of £500. Same underwriter as Express had offered me the bigger quote on.

All insurance companies are bastards.

Nothing wrong with the ins co....
It's the broker that is the problem, or maybe the cover offered between the 2 is diffrent..
Such as bigger excess.

If you are insuring with MCE, don't get any points as they will ask for proof but not til about halfway through the year.

Insurers usually ask for proof of NCB at the time the policy is taken out - if you tell a porky you might find yourself in some hot water, with phrases like "insurance fraud" and the like being bandied about.

+1 THIS!

I made that fatal mistake on more than one occasion.

You get hounded with calls for days asking you if you want to buy said insurance...

EDIT: Let's put two posts into one...

"Sensible" bikes are still cheap as shit to insure.

Me = 20 year old numpty in my first year of licensedom.

TPFT on a '99 ER5 = 170ish
TPFT on an '01 Hornet = 250ish

I found them through the bike insure, ramasis/wickedquotes.co.uk is my insurer. Their admin fees aren't much either Smile Not had to claim yet though... hopefully I won't!

Insurance companies overquote you massively on the first go, in the vain hope you'll read off those card details. the cvnts.

Insurance renewals are a 1 week job for me. Get the name of one person at every insurance company you are considering, then battle them off eachother. Use the old "they're cheaper" argument.

However, the best way to use this (remember everyone says so and so is cheaper). Make it sound like you reaaallly like [insurance company name]. Tell them you know they're brill and would stay with them for years, just that you're poor and physically can't afford the initial outlay.

"yup, quote is £625 sir"

"WTF! on a bandit600 TPO! is that the best price"

"I'm afraid it is sir"

"damn, cz bikesure are giving me £400, and i know you guys are better, but i can't afford £625 atm. Are you sure you can't go any lower. Just get rid of extras and stuff?"

"hmm, tell you what, let me check and ring you back"

[click]

*I furiously check on price comparison sites*

RIING RING

"hello?"

"hi dragstaar? good news, spoken to my manager, if you don't mind losing the riding other bikes cover, we can drop it £500."

"oh wow, thats brilliant. but its still a tiny bit out my budget"

"well if you lose the breakdown cover i can do £450"

"awesome, well lets go ahead with that! oh wait... oh will you look at that!"

"what?"

"just on confused, and Direct Line are offering £350! can you match that?"

"okay, let me check and ring you back"

after a few times of to'ing and fro'ing over a period of 4 days, i got it down to £190.

Build a rapport with the guy on the phone, and make him want to get you a good deal so you'll coo over the phone and tell him that he's a good boy! They love that shit

lol, but i like my short essays! Embarassed Not as long as Tef's though. his are full dissertations.

But yeah, breakdown and riding other bikes cover are great if you use them. But i never ride other bikes and I don't break down and if i do, i'm always bus distance away.

If you use them though, then its a different matter

same for me,, i insured my car and both bikes with them

car insurance wasnt the cheapest quote but was within 20 quid of it, thundercat was 15 over the cheapest quote and the old XS 400 got insured for absolutely nothing Very Happy

the free legal cover, breakdown insurance, helmet and leathers cover was a huge bonus as well, but its better to phone them with the cheapest quotes you have and let them try to match it

As if I haven't checked that...

Currently policy has lower excess, lower premium and +2000 miles per year restriction. So, basically, my previous insurer just hoped I'd be an idiot and not bother to check if I could get a better deal than they were offering... and got caught out. And then, got really stroppy with me when I cancelled. Laughing

Fuck 'em.

got my 2 years ncb coming in just over a week but need the bike before then because my grandad's in a coma and i need to go up and visit him. if the difference was negligent (like £50) there'd have been no problem but it's a ridiculous difference with some insurers even declining a quote!

I always give them my old mobile number. The phone is lying somewhere unused for months with flat battery. I charge it eventually from time to time Cool
