My NSR 125 tends to smoke a lot when it goes into around 6-7k revs. Even if I've been riding it around a fair bit that day. It may do so in lower revs when going up a hill too.

So I looked around and tried to find out if there was something causing this. I understand it could be a head gasket? But I'm not sure. Basically when I'm up to 40/50mph in a high enough gear, it doesn't plume white smoke, but in the lower gears it does. For example, accelerating from standing to 40mph quickly with gear changes up to 4th/5th will shoot out white smoke. Is this normal?

I read that it could be the oil injector putting in too much oil? There is a marker it should line up, but I couldn't find it, though I may be just dense here. So, I took some pictures, and if you could point me towards the marker's alignment, I'd be eternally grateful, if not just to rule out the injection as the problem.

This one was to show that the marker on the round brass coloured bit, lines up with the protruding metal bit.

This is the first time I've been in this bit of the bike, so I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I have the manual printed out, but to be honest that didn't do much good in explaining to me what I was looking for. The last picture is it at full throttle.

I apologise for the size of the pictures, and the clarity. Auto-focus wouldn't work and I had to manually do this, which was a real pain.

Anyway, any light you can shed on this would be great. Does it look like it's set right?

yup the notch is meant to line up with the metal point, was doing this on mine only the other day.

that smoke aint normal though, how does it run ? is smoke the only issue or is it rough?
also whats your coolant level like? is it low or dropping? as that would point to gasket failure.

try gettin a vid up of the smoke

The coolant seems to be quite high. I changed the oil yesterday from crappy stuff to fully synth 2T, so it may be the oil? Waiting for it to clear out it's system.

As for running, it doesn't appear to have a problem, it's just the smoke basically. I'll try and put my camera on the back of my bike to show it, but that'll be tomorrow now.

Grab hold of the workshop manual and go through the oil pump calibration procedure. Thumbs Up

i think you're right about the head gasket . white smoke means water burning , blue smoke means gear box oil burning . check your compression , and if it's les than 125 PSI , i am completly right
by the way , if your bike is before 1993 , your head is probably a JC20 model and i recommand to look for a JC22 model and buy the 4 studs 7x47,5 to replace the 7x42,5 .
this because the JC22 head is thicker than the JC20 (note the 2 others are identical)
