hi,
yup, heard of that happening a few times for the reason you said, if its a replica team thing, then they will see it as more desirable & therefore more likely to get nicked.
bit silly imho, & just an excuse to get more money out of you..
the other reason, is for fully comp policies. because, if you paint it different from oem colours, then if a panel is damaged, & you claim for it, it will cost more, as they would have to get an unpainted panel & pay someone to match it up,which might be difficult to do. (due to the amount of different colours & shades available)
i understand that type of reason but dunno what difference it makes if its a pro job or not though............
remember if you have changed the colour you might have to tell dvla.
cheers,

I painted my old cx650 black and sent the log book off with the change, it came back black and I told the insurance. Never made any difference to insurance. ____________________ Check out our tackle shop on Facebook:

THAT, Paddy, is becouse more RED Cars get crashed!
Or at least insurance stats when I was about 24 said so!
Seem to remember its one of the 'dafter' insurance scoring criteria, but, they score it!
Aparently some one even did a psycological study in to driver behaviour, and more agressive drivers tend to choose red. Silver, is aparently more passive agressive, while mute colors like brown are more likely to be chosen by people wanting to 'blend in', and likely to be more 'timid' drivers. Aparently the BEST colour car to have is green (subject to the variability of such statistics!) Aparently green is chosen by people who are very rational, confident and considerate.
Though it might all be utter bollox!
CB is black.... says 'grey' on the log book..... I didn't see the point in arguing shades of black! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Copied from the same thread in 'workshop'
I think I know what the problem is, but people here might find it a bit hard to swallow.
Let's say you throw it up the road and, amongst other things, you wreck a side panel; it goes into the shop, but they can't match the colour or the finish, so now it can't be put back to it's pre-accident condition, which is what the insurance company are committed to paying for.
Even worse, the side panels are only available pre painted, so now the shop want to paint the other panel and the tank to match, which insurance companies call 'betterment' and they really hate paying for that.
Basically, by doing a cheapo repaint, you've now made it more expensive to repair.
@mysterious - what colour does it say on your V5?
Your insurance company don't need to ask what colour it is, they've got your registration number, so they will use the DVLA records for any details they need.
If you ever need them to pay for anything to be repainted, they'll wriggle like an eel with 50,000 volts up it's arse, if the bike doesn't match the records. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

I was always told green was the worst colour for a car, and that it was traditionally unlucky
I've never bought a green car Well except my series 2 Landy that was actually red, but green underneath... ____________________ '93 Africa Twin RD07, C-90,MTX-125,H-100,XL-125, a 125UAG(CG copy!) |
