This is going to be the page for my Honda PC50.

It's currently my main mode of transport. Got it for 250 quid with full mot and no tax Smile
Does 30mph on flat... and 36ish downhill revving its tits off!
Can ride it in pedal mode if desired and it weighs the same as a slightly overweight BMX

Gets 40-50 miles per litre of fuel

Painfully slow on take off though, Watch this vid and you'll see what I mean ;D
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzo24rSofbU

Also me starting her, and telling my mother where to stand for the above video Razz
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7WzM-dSEbo&NR=1

She's a good usable bike, You just have to treat her like a powered bicycle not a motorcycle.

Going to do a half assed restoration on her, get her engine running as good as possible and then renovate most of the cosmetics...

Any suggestions, let me know!

Cheers chimp...
Just gunna get this one to be a nice presentable bike, but not showroom condition. I'll be scared to ride it then =(
A few of the plastics are warped... Both mudguards are warped to the side.
Front mudguard has BIIIG crack where it bolts on
Bike makes a nasty vibrating sound at 29-33mph

But I get looks everywhere I go and every time any form of motorcyclist see's it, be they chav on a scooter, goldwing cruiser, Old time restorer or just a commuter on a chinkybike... they all admire it and drum up conversation over it.

I get people watching me as I zoom past at the speed of... well... an overladen bus... =P

People beep their horns at me in both anger at my speed, and also as I'm waiting in traffic with them and they wave at me.

It just makes people smile Smile

Actually no. Not in the case of the PC50
Take note of the small black lever on the side of the engine, This switches between bicycle mode and engine mode. The Decomp is just a killswitch basically Smile

Right, She's starting to leak oil while running. Not at a fast pace at all, but it is noticable.
So I got myself some 20-50 mineral oil (asda smart price @ £1.69/L) for it seeing as it's only 1972.
I'm almost certain the crank-case gasket has sprung a small leak.

Down for repair now, The PC50 has decided it doesnt like its new oil either and decided to spew it out through the crank-case halves. Not sure if the gasket has gone or what, but that's what I'm assuming.

Anyway, A few pics of me taking the engine out =P

Draining oil out...

OK, watched Vid, and I have to say.... Yup, DEFINITELY a step up from the GN.... that bike has 'cred', especially without L-Plates.....
Snowie just screwed up her nose at it...... not sure whether that was becouse its a pedal & pop, or she was just jelouse you dont have to have L-Plates Laughing
But, yup..... pure class.
Might not be fast, but whats the point in riding a piece of history, if people don't have a chance to see it!
As for the sump gasket..... it probably peed itself in shock at the taste of fresh oil!

Right, found out where it's leaking oil from, I filled her up and turned her upside down, I'm losing about 1ml a minute of fresh oil (20-50) from the hole shown in the centre of the pic, This to me says the crank case gasket is shot at some point in that hole. I was thinking, as a temporary solution, could I not just block up that hole with a whole lot of gasket putty compressed in?Wouldnt that contain the oil till a more serious leak occurs?

I'd personally split the cases and make a new one out of gasket paper, saves it coming back and biting you on your arse.

sounds fairly minor, but will require a full strip,
not particuly hard though,
may as well do the valve stem oil seals and all new gaskets,

im pushing for the 60cc kit, they can be had fairly cheap, and won't change the look any, plus might just give up a little bit more power down low where you need it

You try getting hold of a full gasket set. It's neigh-on impossible to get one for the PC50. Checked my local honda dealer and they cant get it

the power of google aye Very Happy

there will be plenty of people who have lots of nos gear, but don't have websites, they were pretty popular in there day and spares parts would be
sitting on shelves, forgotten about,

there is a guy on ebay at the moment selling a few bits of nos stuff,
might pay to start hording bits Very Happy especially if you are going to keep the bike indefinitely (i would, its the sort of bike you can just park up later and pull out to whip down to the shops on)

have you managed to find an online fiche yet?? all i seem to find is the ohc model, considering the ohv model was in production untill 1980 and the ohc was just a couple of years in production it seems weird

I havent found any fiches at all mate. I'll horde spares when I have the money Smile And yes I'll be keeping it indefinately. Which is tempting me to make some minor modifications at some point to make the bike more... ME... Smile

Not much to update at the moment, My crank-case gasket is here, so is the clutch cover gasket. I need to order a few more bits.
Oil seal for right hand side of crank-case
Head gasket
Base Gasket
I'm pretty sure I can start stripping it then. Well, I can strip it NOW I guess, but I wont be able to put it back together lol
