Note:
I've moved this topic to "General Chat" as suggested by computid.

Hi,

I'm looking for a cheap(ish) flip up helmet that is safe, comfortable, quiet, etc.

I've looked at the following:
- viper rs 111/115
- caberg trip
- hjc is-max
- davida lunar

Anyone recommend one of the above or anything else ?

Thanks,
Nigel

You'll probably get more of a response in general chat then in the workshop...

I love my Caberg J1 plus.

The only bad thing about it is that the cheekpads make my squashed little face look HILARIOUS when it's flipped up.

The 3 best suggestions I can give you;

Shoei Multitec
Schuberth C3 (expensive)
Shark Evoline ( very heavy 1950g!)

I had a go with a workmate's Caberg Trip and liked it. Decent weight, fairly quiet (the 2009 model I tried didn't have the vision and sound problems reported for a 2006 model here, 5 star SHARP rating and the flip stayed locked in 90% of impacts.

I think that's out of production now, so you should have a look at the Caberg Konda replacement, which has the same 5 star rating and a 97% stayed-locked result. I think that's as good as you're getting with a flip lid, and it's #1 on my list to try when I replace my current lid.
