Possibly looking into respraying the fairings on my bike, which paint did you use? as I fancied a metallic black, and any tips on doing it?

i just used the spray paints from halfords, there very good quality. best tip i could give is spend alot of time on prep, i spent 12 hours just sanding down and cleaning to make sure everything was smooth. if your doing metalic black you will need the grey primer. i used 2500 grit sand paper between each coat and that gave it a very smooth finish. jsut take your time and dont rush Very Happy

this link might help:

ha yeah i used quite a high grade paper, most recomend anything between 1500 - 2000 between coats and 150 for sanding down. i used 4x500ml cans for the orange, 2x500ml for the black, 4x500ml primer, 1x500ml petrol laquer for the tank and 2x500ml clear laquer for the rest Smile

One of the best rattle can jobs I have ever seen Thumbs Up

How long has it been since you sprayed the lacquer? Let it set properly for a good fortnight and then get some rubbing compound on and it will come up super shiny. Wink Then some decent wax to keep it in top nick.

Looks brilliant!

Are you going to do anything with the wheels? Paint or maybe just rimtape?

Thumbs Up

Looking really nice. Love the colour, but I think I prefer the white instead of the black (for the lines) but that's just just me and my lack of taste Very Happy

Couple of questions for ya. How come you didn't remove the filler cap before you started sanding the tank? Did you mask it up to stop the thing from getting accidentaly scratched?

What tape did you use to mask off the lines and when did you take the tape away? I was so tempted to put a white line down the middle of my tank but wasn't sure if the edges would be clean enough? I heard that you should remove it whilst the paint is still wet - how'd you get on?

must admit i thought the white orange was a really nice contrast, might be an idea for someone else to use Wink i removed the filler cap after the initial sand down, im going to be buffing and polishing up the filler cap so wasnt to bothered if got scrached as i will be doing that in a couple of weeks.

i bought some autocare masking tape from halfords, i spent about 30 minutes applying the tape, i made sure the line was spot on, then rubbed down the edges of the tape until i was happy there were no creases/bubbles. the directions say to leave on for no longer than 2 hours, and this gave the result above Thumbs Up
