Hey I need help with my 125.
My bike wouldn't start the other morning and I'm not really sure what's wrong with it so I decided to see if anyone out there could help me.
It's a kangchao kc118 (I know all the bad comments about Chinese bike but I honestly it isn't a bad bike) when trying to start it with the kick start there is no resistance and won't start when kicking then all of a sudden there's a bang and the kick start has resistance and once kicked will start the bike, I have good compression and a ok spark. I have also replaced the starter coil and then cdi but doesn't help at all. The engine is a lifan 125 engine and wasn't sure if it's a common fault or the engine is knackered

Try push starting it. With the bike not in gear push it as fast as you can (rolling down a hill works well) and knock it into gear whilst giving it some throttle. If after a few goes it doesn't start you have engine trouble. If it starts okay, as above the kick start is the issue.

If you do bump start it, do it in second gear!

Trying to knock it into gear whilst running is guaranteed to have him on his arse.

Best way is select second, clutch out, roll it backwards until you get resistance, clutch in. THEN run with it, jump on and dump the clutch.

If you have a nice big hill near you, its worth pushing it up to the top of that and rolling down as you try to bump start it.

Shaggy is right, Clutch in, roll, pick up speed, then dump clutch and see if that breathes some life into her

That's how i always do it. Push the bike up a big hill, sit on it, paddle your way down the hill for extra speed and kick it into 1st. I've managed it with some big old heavy bikes and i'm not exactly strong Laughing

I tried to bump start it this morning but the clutch has decided not to work, I was wondering if that could any help or if that gives anyone any clues what's wrong with it

Do you mean that the clutch isn't disengaging?

Try rolling the bike back and forth whilst trying to change gear and it should free up

I hope its not one of those MZ style designs where it won't kick over if the clutch is disengaged. If it is, its more likely that your clutch is knackered than the kickstart ratchet gear...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I've always found that first gives too much of a jolt where as second just catches nicely! Thumbs Up

I don't know it's really starting to annoy me, basically once I pull the clutch in nothing happens if it's in gear u can't roll the bike freely, I've triedto adjust the clutch but nothing at all happens

sounds like your clutch is dragging. i cant understand why it would stop it from starting though.

try the bumping method without using the clutch but go for second gear, bounce on the seat at the same time as engaging the gear to give it that extra oompfh (anyone who has had naff bikes or stuborn crossers will understand) its a bit of an art but affective never the less.
