Yes yes yes I know, we don’t do Chinese bikes... I got a dealer within a 2 minute walk from my house for Sinnis bikes. A Brighton based company that have bikes made in China. Ewwww Chinese bikes!

But then I saw this....

Its about £1500 new, so price wise screams don’t touch me... But I thought it was kinda cute. Has the sorta baby 60's scrambler look. Worse... I looked at MCN... yes yes yes I know we don’t read MCN and take it seriously but they rated it pretty good

So while I was passing by today looking for new indicators I sat on it. Its didy! Not quite cbr 125 didy but it is small. Had that sorta Jack Russel thing about it. You good imagine it giving a 'Grrrr ima big doggy!'. Costs about £80 to insure... Id love one as a winter hack for next year...

In one day I have oogled a baby scrambler, that’s made in China, and read MCN and took it seriously (which I am told I should never do ).

It all comes down to warranty and resale. Sinnis are trying to build a brand, so you might get lucky on the former. It's the latter that'll be more likely to nob you.

Oh, and "Chinese bike" is pretty much a non sequitur. The YBR 125 is a "Chinese bike" as are many other 125s now (pop the seat off a modern Vespa and see where it's made).

Chinese-branded is what you mean, and Sinnis is a British brand. You might get lucky on the resale.

That's a lovely looking bike, and might make a great used purchase. Bought new though, you really have to do the sums and see if you can afford the depreciation.

True Roger, been having a bit of a google, engines are made in a factory that make Suzuki engines (recent merger). Guessing that means the build quality should be higher than the Skyteam'esque brands.

Might keep en eye open for a secound hand one. Still in the mind of running the Rieju into the ground before trading up for a new main bike. But as a cheap 2nd bike, id kinda like one of these

I wouldn't call Sinnis british at all, despite the importers brand name. Superbyke which is another Chinese brand make exact replicas of the Sinnis brand. So its Chinese regardless.

Ack... Dunno.. Came across something while googling Sinnus. They all use the same Suzuki GS(?) engine across the range that comes from a factory just merged with Suzuki. Will look over my history to see if I can find it.

Don't be taken in. You know those girls who seem really fit when you're in a dimly lit club and have had a skinful...think of Chinese bikes like that. However viable it seems at the time, you will bitterly regret it and hate yourself if you go ahead and do it.

Having said that, it's certainly not the most shabby looking bike I've ever seen. But 1500 notes for something Chinese is madness

I had a Sinnis as my first bike, sold it on to someone else when I passed my test and it hasn't killed him yet.

He lives just down the road from one of my mates and parks it outside his house, so every time I go past I get a nostalgic feeling

I read in motorcycle trader that the uk importer has a chinese guy working for them who has relatives working at the factory, helps with translating problems and improving the brand.
The chinese bike thing won't go away, but like the japanese there will be a lot of smaller companies swallowed up and a few bigger firms will emerge with quality products, they need to rename with something less chinese sounding or at least we can pronounce

That's what Sinnis, Lexmoto and Superbyke are doing. Lexmoto have successfully got the "Lexmoto Vixen" onto most insurers' lists, unlike the identical Huoniao / Haotian / Superbyke brandings. Pro tip: get a best quote using the Lexmoto, then call them up and say "Come onnnnn..."

And is it really, truly so hard to accept that the YBR is a Chinese bike, made in China, from Chinese parts, by Chinese workers? It is, it really is, it's a Chinese bike. Take a deep breath and try to let it into your heart, it all gets easier after that.
