...I mean, why the fuck do courier firms give a "0800 - 1800" delivery time? I've been waiting since 8am and I just know it'll arrive around a minute before 6pm. All day, all bleedin' day.

That's what I thought when I was waiting for my new dishwasher the other month. Phoned at 5:30 to say "where is it" to be told it was on the lorry and phone back after 6 if it hadn't arrived. Phoned back after 6 - their call centre was closed.

When we rang back the next day they said it had never even gone out on the lorry in the first place.

That was Comet - in the interests of naming and shaming. Incompetent liars.

I used to for Comet (warehouse), if you call the store and speak to the manager you should get your delivery refunded. Probably a bit late now though!

Yeah, they refunded the delivery cost. An act which, in itself, reminded me that I was paying Comet to deliver an item to my house when they wouldn't let me get hold of it any other way. Can I collect from store and avoid the delivery charge? No.

So really the delivery charge is just a part of the price of the item then, and should be included as such. Otherwise I can advertise a dishwasher for £1 and charge £250 as a delivery fee.

They've stung you there, did you order over the net or in store? If you have ordered it from a brick and mortar store they should order it in (from Chepstow depot IIRC). Some of the sales are right dodgy fuckers and will do anything to increase their sales percentage.

Its a joke.

I had a desk delivered from Argos(don't judge me lol) the delivery time was 0800 - 1800 weekday so I had to arrange a day off. It arrived no problems at about 1630.

I unpack it to find that the desk top is damaged, so i get on the phone to argos.
They are very apologetic and say they will send out a new one and collect the damaged one the same time....happy days.

Then she says what day would you like it delivered and gave me a choice of some weekdays between 0800-1800 !! I said surely you are going to come at my convenience as its a fault of yours. No sir we cant do that, the courier won't allow it.

So there me sat in again on a work day.

I keep being asked why I have no plans to return to England. This... this is why.

thats why every one goes to thailand, golden sand beaches is just a bullshit excuse Very Happy

having done some courier driving myself, i can say if they asked the driver what time it would arrive i bet he could tell you with in half an hour,
as you have routes that you always follow, but the stores don't talk to the drivers, you just get a note for a pick up and then drop it off, but it may be right at the end of your run depending on where you happen to live on the route.

so the stores just say a time that encompass' the whole day

Co op mate, 90 minute time slot, drivers will call you when we're ten minutes away if you like. Way cheaper than Comet too.

Thailand is a shit tip that I'm well out of...Now I'm in Communist Vietnam.

Only old/fat/beta men pay for sex Colin. Even the dirty kind. Although I'll take a freeby if it's offered. You seem worryingly preoccupied on the subject, want some tips for upcoming visits?

Thailand had NO drugs, or at least none worth touching (Yaba -weak crystal meth and caffiene pills- were a tenner a go) in REAL Thailand... Islands don't count.

Vietnam and Cambodia however, it now appears, are very lax Mr. Green

The reason the OP reminded me about hating England is, well,it is a sickening mentality. We know YOU work, but our drivers deserve the weekend too (both days no less) so we don't run weekends... so please piss away a whole days holiday (often it bowls up at 8am and you could of just been a little late, or past 5 when you'd of been back) but. they. won't. narrow it down.

And the weak little sucklings just accept it. Every year it gets worse, the liberties get bigger and nobody cares as long as you saved 50p.

Try four days waiting for a delivery. Not so cut & dried as it sounds...

Dell 30" monitor with 3-year warranty. Notice a yellow line on boot up (two years old at this point, which was about two weeks ago), so I call it in to Dell. Girl (in India from the sound of her) informs me I'll get a replacement the following day and to expect an email to confirm.

Following day, by 2pm I still have received no email so I start to wonder if the delivery has gone awol too. I call them again, girl tells me there are no 30" monitors available and delivery will probably be on the weekend (conversation is thurs). I go out. In town I get a call from home, the courier is there. He refuses to un-plug the wonky monitor and leaves, taking replacement with him. I get back home, call Dell, arrange re-delivery for next day (fri).

Fri, monitor arrives at 12.30pm. I take one look and decide it's the wrong monitor, based upon the fact the girl told me I'd be having to remove the stand from mine and keep it as the replacement would be head-unit only (would have to be the exact same model in that case, right?) and that the replacement is clearly different anyway. Guy takes it away. I call Dell again and have a pop. Then go on the net and become an expert on Dell 30" monitors and realize the one I've just rejected was a brand-new this-year model. Mine is a 3008, my bro has a 3007 and the new one is a 3011. These are the only 30" monitors Dell has ever made. Ring Dell back, beg for rejected one to be sent back on monday.

Monday, nada. Ring Dell, "Delivery next day".

Tues, call from Dell at 3pm, blah blah blah, not coming today, tomorrow.

Wed, courier arrives 3pm, box is battered and filthy, we open it on the doorstep, 3007 model, damaged bezel, POS, 're-furbished' my ass. I ask courier to wait, call Dell, they advise me to accept swap and deal with replacement as new case, I refuse, they tell me that due to number of attempts they can no longer deal and I should contact original supplier directly.

Thurs, I call original supplier (Taran Microsystems) and get put through to Simon Ellis. Explain full story. Two hours later he calls back, "Sorted, you'll be getting a 3011".

Tues following week I get brand new 3011 model with 2yr 8m warranty on it (held stock, warranty active from jan 2011) from Dell courier.

Taran Microsystems, buy with confidence approved. Very Happy Not that Dell were bad, just a clusterfuckup.

On the other side.
I got to a delivery Friday, within our 90 minute slot, no one home. Called the mobile number the customer had given, bloke answered.
Told me his wife had to go out, I'd have to wait for her to get back.
How long?
"As long as it fucking takes mate."
sorry Sir, I'll have to call customer services.
"call who you fucking want mate, but you'll have to wait till she gets back"
No, I don't think I will have to.
"what fucking choice have you got mate?"
well, I have the choice to stop listening to your abuse and move on to my next customer.
"fucking try it mate, I'll fucking sort you right out"
Goodbye Sir, and by the way, I'm not your mate.

He continued calling the rest of the day, but he didn't get his fucking tumble drier.

Its all about cost companies are increasing changing their delivery companies based on who can give the lowest price, not really interested in who gives the best service.

On the other hand if you buy from a store and they give you an 08.00-18.00 delivery slot say no thanks and find somewhere that will give you a narrower slot, if these companies had their drivers sitting around half the day they'd soon change their minds.

Amen.

I'd have been out of there as soon as he said "as long as it fucking takes". Attitude works both ways.

Your story confirms the biggest problem with most of this, is that everyone thinks they are a) The most important customer in the world and b) The only one.

Of course if you try and say this to anybody, they will say but I should be treated like a) and b). That is the key to good customer service etc etc. A good company would take it seriously etc etc.

Fair enough in the 50's when there might have been one or two customers, but in the age where you can order everything online in a few seconds, expect it delivered tomorrow at a time of your choosing, and also the fact that we are all relatively wealthy/goods are relatively cheaper, everyone is at it.

I just buy white goods and big things in the models and ranges that are kept stocked, and available to be collected. It isn't worth my while wasting a days holiday waiting in for this crap. You can get most stuff in the back of a hatchback, except maybe a fridge freezer, sofa or mattress. In which case you call in a favour from somebody with a van.

Don't blame you Dog. I spend a lot of my day dealing with people on the phones and just hang up if they become abusive. I don't care if people swear, I'm as big a potty mouth as the next dude, but I don't put up with being abused. I'll either hang up or suggest they conduct themselves with more decorum next time they call and THEN hang up, in the vain hope that the next time they call they might have got the message. It's probably not going to happen, but if everyone did it, these sorts of people might think twice about being such an arsehole in the future.

Absolutely no need whatsoever. I waited all day and was mildly irked, but would never, ever have taken it out on the courier. No need at all. And I hope the tossers tumble drier (when he eventually got it) burned all his pants. Nobber...

There's absolutely zero point in giving somebody grief (especially over the phone) unless you know you can act upon whatever threats you make. And you really should have the moral highground to start with, otherwise you're just being a cnut.

I fondly remember one case, involving the mis-selling of...ah balls, I can't be arsed.

Had it a few weeks ago too, arrived and the guy wanted us to take the washer to another address, strictly no go for that. Number one rule, deliver to the delivery addresss ONLY. Tried to explain and told him I would call customer services when he started calling us "awkward fucking jobsworths"

Washer went back on the van, he was a big bloke and tried to stop us, I advised him forcefully, not to try.

(what was that film? "you're a big bloke, but you're out of shape??.....Get Carter??)

Trouble is, I knew when customer services got the call, he would lie, blame us............he did. they told me I HAD to go back.

I advised customer services that I had been threatened and abused, and wouldn't be held responsible for any injuries to the customer if I had to defend myself. They dropped the matter, he didn't get his washer.
