Does that mean that R1s are popular, or common?

Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad What-in-the-£"$^"£"$_HELL is wrong with wanting a bike that looks good as well as one that goes?

This "tart" business is beginning to get on my nerves now. IT seems some people would rather us live in a land of CB500's and ER5's Rolling Eyes .

Hehe, looks like I should have posted that with 'fighty_g'.

Did I say there was anything /wrong/ with being a tart?

I take the piss out of people for being tarts, but then get the piss taking out of me for most of my bikes being ratty.

For me, bikes are about riding them.
I have often admitted to being 'tarty' (remember the heel plate), but that doesn't mean I like that aspect of my character.

A lot of people seem to spend a lot of money on stuff that will in the end probably impress no one but themselves, at best some random people that will have no idea who they are thanks to leathers and helmet.

The fact that a lot of people do choose a bike more on looks than other values would suggest that they don't actually enjoy the riding as much as the perceived elated status by association with the vehicle they are riding.

In my opinion a lot of people would find they actually enjoy riding more than they realised if they spent more of their money and time on the riding rather than aesthetics.

Though, in the end, I wish putting some gold trim on my bike would give me anywhere near the enjoyment that a track day does.

I agree with Andy, you could probably call someone a tart if they picked a shit bike that looked good, but we can hardly call the R1 a shit bike that looks good can we? Not that Ive ridden one.

My point (which was intended as a joke by the way Rolling Eyes) was that a significant number of those people probably choose those bikes on the basis of looks.
I wouldn't be suprised if there's a load of second hand 2004 r1s for sale soon, as there was when the original r1 came out etc.
A lot of people do buy a bike that isn't suitable for the riding they want to do, either because of the looks or status they expect from it.

Lol, yeah i agree up to a point. Im definitely not a tart, if I were to buy for example a Sports 600 i would go for the CBR, a liter bike I would go for the blade, or quite possibly the R1 but never ruling out the Suzuki. Its just the bike which people say rides the best/is the best.

Thankfully i do not want a new bike at the moment, but if i did i would choose one that would ride really well. It just so happens that all the new sports bikes look really nice. As form follows function its no suprise they do.

I like sportbikes, for the peformance and the handling etc, so thats why i buy one. Its not my fault they look nice as well... its the way they are

Others may just go on looks, so i guess it just comes down to ones prerogatives. Its not right to name everyone who buys one of those tarts, or indeed name the bikes tarty...

Those bling choppers are tarts bikes Laughing

I bought the NSR chiefly because It looks good. Looks are what grabbed me, I'd not had the opportunity to ride one before I bought it. At the end of the day, I perceive the appearance of my bike as being directly linked with that "pride in your appearance" thing.

I ride around on a clean shiny NSR rather than a scruffy rusty one, because I take pride in myself. As the adverts say, why do I want to ride round on a sparkly shiny good looking bike? Because I'm worth it Laughing .

I get just as much pleasure with the NSR, because when I'm not riding it, I'm cleaning it to make it look better, and that makes me happy too Smile .

If you are buying a new sportsbike then you may as well buy the one that you think looks best, as most of us won't be able to tell the difference in ride anyway.

Sureley they can't have bought so many CBR125's that the dealer ran out of stock? Thinking

I really hope you're not telling me that you didn't get a CBR125 because (my god!) someone else had one first!? Brick Wall
