How do you guys connect your compressor to a caliper to blow the pistons out?

I imagine you must have to use something in place of the bleed nipple but what is it?

I think most people just pop the banjo bolt out and blow down that hole, maybe use a bit of rag so as to not damage the threads.

I normally use the actual hydraulic action to push the pistons out. Pump them out about as far as they go, then you can tend to pull them out as long as you're careful with a set of mole grips (and something to protect the chrome on the pistons).

Pfft like I said,..bit of rag. Should seal it up well enough, and free (ish).

Hi

Having tried before now with a normal blow gun and some rubber to try and seal it, I had no chance of shifting the pistons compared to the rubber nosed item. Just couldn't get a relatively useful seal.

All the best

I've always used the brake itself to pump them right out. If done right you can get the most seized pistons out so far you can pull them out with your fingers. Another option is mole grips and some rubber inner tube.

Use the brake to push them out as far as possible, if they won't come completely out I use a Jubilee clip around them then pipe pliers/mole grips etc to pull them free.
A compressor blows brake fluid every where!

I cut the valve off every old inner tube I throw away, that with a bit of the rubber around it will screw into the banjo bolt hole and give a good seal. I use my MTB track pump to pop the pistons out.

Cheers

I use that white stuff, ptfe tape its called, iirc.
just wrap it round the air duster nozzle & force it in to the bolt hole.
pistons fly out at a dangerous speed though...seen then land down the other end of the garden.
wouldnt like to get my fingers in the way....
cheers,

ive just removed the pistons out of a spare set of calipers ,i used a m16 rawl bolt just push in tighten the bolt down just enough so it grips the inside without distorting the piston then pull out
easy Wink
(m16 is for a 25mm hole upwards)

First you need an old brake line with a good banjo then you cut the hose to your desired length then you buy/scavange a metal tyre/schreider valve you screw it into the cut end and jubilee clip it best part is you can reuse it as often as yoiu like.

This type of hose lets you use anything from a compressor powered tyre blower to a foot pump to pressurise the caliper, the valve means you can retain the pressure whilst not having to keep the air feed on constantly.

If your free moving piston comes completely out don't worry just clean it up and refitt it the wedge a spanner in the caliper in the space the disc usualy occupies that way the piston can only travel so far out when it stops the other more stuck piston should begin to move.

A guy i used to work with years ago smashed the element in the workshops calorgas fire useing to high pressure on some realy stuck pistons, it sounded like a bloody gun going off when they let go.
