A week ago I finished my degree course, now it's time to get a job and get rid of some of the motorcycle detrius which I've collected.
My current total of bikes is 9
'94 VFR750 - Ready for the MOT, thoroughly serviced and checked over
'88 DT125R - In parts, halfway through rebuild
'78 GP100 - Slightly in parts
'93 NSR125F - Engine out for a rebuild (300 miles away)
'98 NTV650 - Crashed years ago, ignored since (300 miles away)
'7# ST70 (DAX) x 2 - rusty as fuck
'7# CF50 (CHALY) - rusty as fuck
'95 FZR660/400 hybrid - In parts, needs some more parts and engine built
And on Saturday I'm picking up an '88 CB450DX (unfinished project)
Anyway plan is to ebay the monkeybikes as they are (I could make 1 good one out of them, but I have more interesting projects, and stripping all three would use up too much space) finish the DT and sell it on. Finish the GP and CB and then decide which will make the best backup commuter and sell the other. Finish the FZR hybrid and keep it as a trackbike, keep the VFR as a main commuter and use the money from the DT to buy a proper off road bike. NTV will probably be sold as is to fund the engine rebuild of the NSR which will then be a suitable bike for me to have fun on given that I have 10 points. (one for each bike)
So, thats the plan. For the next few weeks I'll be working on just the DT, GP and CB, as they reach conclusion I'll bring my FZR parts round and start assembling that. Which will be a much more involving project. NSR probably wont get any attention until I have a job.
It's been literally months since I've had any free time, so this is all very pleasant for me. In addition the fact that I'll have loads on the go at once means I wont get bogged down waiting for parts or tools as I always do. I also have pretty much all the parts I'll need.
On the downside, the DT was bought last year, I started the project in summer and then got bogged down with several difficult jobs (seized fork bottom bolt, impossible to buy brake seals for a non stupid price etc) so I'm going to have to re work out what is done and what needs doing in the project.
I'll probably also intersperse this with random bits of CAD, which I'll be doing for my portfolio and babble on about the job application process. My most complete CAD project is found [url=https://www.wix.com/tristanholmes/scottcycles]here[/here] and I'm currently really exited about 3 positions. I have an assessment day (7:30-18:00) with jaguar/land rover next month, which is apparently the final stage to get the job (product development engineer) and I recently had a second stage technical interview with Triumph (product design engineer) I find out in 4 weeks if I get the final interview. I'm putting in an application this evening for a small local company which is a consultancy that makes prototype models and one offs, which sounds really interesting.
Anyway, the current workspace and some bikes

And this is where my tools and parts live. Unfortunatley it looks like the majority of today will be spent making it usable

It's as de-cluttered as it'll ever be now
https://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/tristanthe/DSC_2524.jpg
It still looks terrible, but to be fair there is a fuckton of stuff in a very small space
For example the grey box under the welder has the DT engine in it. The larger grey box behind the shelves has virtually every other part except whats on the bike. The shelves hold far far more tools than most hobby mechanics would ever need. I have so many because I've spent some time working as an unqulified mechanic, it's less hassle to have multiples of things, than to spend ages searching when you could be working.
Time for through the keyhole, BCF style
https://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/tristanthe/DSC_2525.jpg
top shelf has basically every fluid, cleaner or grease I've ever needed, and multiples of most
https://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/tristanthe/DSC_2526.jpg
Second shelf has 4 socket sets, hundreds of stainless bolts and other universal spares.
Third shelf has my power tool affixment and PPE box, which hs all the extra bits and some small powered things like dremels and soldering irons, plus gloves, goggles masks. The actual power tools fill one of the grey storage boxes, or are in the ABS cases.
https://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/tristanthe/DSC_2527.jpg
Third shelf also has all my fancy tools, the little boxes hold a comp tester, bearing puller, carb balencer, micrometer and vernier.
Bottom shelf has my normal tools in two cool vintage toolboxes. I have a wierd system
https://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/tristanthe/DSC_2528.jpg
the box on the top left has tools which go around things, the box on the right has tools that go inside things, and some more power tool bits that I dont keep in the box cos they stab me if I reach intoit, the lid section for the left hand box hold wire brushes and random bits and bobs.
So thats my shed clean. And if you want to rob me you'll need at least a SWB transit, no use turning up in an astra van.
On the bike front, the GP engine has developed a gritty feel when turning it over since it's been sat. This is good as I was in two minds about wether to do the bottom end or just the top. I like having my mind made up for me.
Oh and as they are a bit of an oddity, heres a few pics of the monkeys. They'll be on eBay this evening
