GSXR 750 WN - Need to get ignition barrel out

Hi, yes I've lost my keys, so I gather what I need to do is get my barrel out & send it off to get new keys. How do I do this, & do I need any special tools?

Can't you order a key using the number on the ignition barrel?

The ignition is bolted to the top yoke using security bolts. If you believe the Suzuki manual these can be removed by using a dot punch, but usual method is to drill the heads off them and hope that you can twist the rest out with molegrips.

Is it stamped on the plate where you insert the key? Certainly is on my '91.

Just take off the whole top yoke and post it to Keys Galore, they will sort it out from there.

The visible number on the barrel is just the key blank type; there's sometimes the extra information you need to make the key but that's usually hidden (e.g. on the side of the barrel) for obvious reasons!

So what's involved in getting the top yolk off? I don't have a manual.

Likely just undo the nut which goes through the headstock, undo the pinch bolts around the forks, lift off, unclip the multi connector from the ignition (which will no doubt be tucked away so theives can't easily get at it), and you 'll be done.

Tho probably will need some swearing too.

Once you have removed the top yoke, don't move the bike around or you could put too much stress on the bottom one. Might seem obvious, but not to everyone.
