A few months back I embarked on a new project. The idea was to try to and marry two of my interests: Adventure riding and filming

Now I am by no means an expert at either, in fact you could probably say I'm new to both, but as always I tend to throw myself ambitiously into new projects. The result is a documentary series that I'm hoping will be of interest to other people. There will be 3, maybe 4, episodes of approximately 20-25mins that I will release online as they are completed. I also intend to put them on a DVD when I've finished all of them.

At the moment I'm putting the finishing touches on the first episode and hope to release an episode each month between Feb and May. I plan on finishing the DVD for May as well.

This trip turned out to be quite eventful with many unplanned twists and obstacles. You could call it bad luck in some circumstances, but I choose to call it adventure.

It also served to broadened my understanding and experience of the dark continent (well a corner of it at least). It's very easy to live in South Africa and not truly understand what it means to be an African.

There is a guest appearance from Charley Boorman (okay a 5 second clip. Here's hoping I don't get sued).

I'll probably do a promo video in the near future. But for the meanwhile some photos will have to do in wetting the apatite.

I posted these pictures in an earlier thread, so if you've already seen them then please forgive me. As a matter of keeping all the info in one place I've reposted them below:

Synopsis:
Gravel Travel is an independent documentary series filmed in South Africa and Lesotho. It follows 3 riders as they travel around southern Africa, from the built up cities in South Africa to the remote mountain villages in Lesotho.

It tries to explore the disparity between urban and rural Africa and how the 2 intermingle. It also follows the problems experienced by these 3 riders, whiles tackling remote terrain, and the unexpected journey they take whiles trying to resolve these problems.

If this project is of interest to you, I would appreciate your support at:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Gravel-Travel/128976263835041

If I can gather some supporters in one single place it might add weight to the project, should I choose to take it to a production company or market the DVDs.

But obviously I'll post updates here as well.

The episodes will be online. I'll probably put them up on vimeo. But I'll let people know when they are up Smile

Sorry about the delay in editing.

I've finished the first episode which is now available online:

https://www.vimeo.com/graveltravel/episode1

I'm also half way through the second episode, which is coming out really well. The story really gets going in the second and third episode. I'll hopefully have the second episode done by next week Smile

Once again, your support at https://www.facebook.com/graveltravel would be great.

I'm really hoping that we see a new genre growing for adventure riding documentaries by those that enjoy both riding and film!

Glad you enjoyed them!

Everything worked out okay in the end. I had to go back to Thaba-Tseka in Lesotho two more times after this trip to get everything resolved, but it's behind me now.

If I make a 4th episode it will probably only be a short one. I've probably only got enough footage to edit together about 10min of story, before all I'm really doing is padding.
