10 days ago I paid £200 for this lump of scrap:

It's a 1995 Kawasaki GTR1000, although a couple of bits were missing, it was mainly complete. It's supposed to look something like this:
https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gallery/Kawasaki%20GTR1000%2094%20%203.jpg
Seemingly it was a failed attempt at making a chop, it had posh (ghey) petrol tanks, dodgy chrome bar risers, and a distinct lack of any sort of life in the electrics.
Mocked up to see what it was intended to look like, decided I didn't like it
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/222360_10150179375996028_541106027_6956782_4462524_n.jpg
The idea of "racing numbers" had been thrown around by a few of my mates for our bikes, so I got a pair of stickers made up. This job was more important that sorting out the stripped spark plug hole and the lack of electrics
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/230215_10150182110276028_541106027_6985097_5276503_n.jpg
I found a tin of Johnsons burgundy gloss in the shed, not sure who had painted skirtboards with it, but it was horrible, so I had a bit of fun
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/227392_10150184620646028_541106027_7002415_5232290_n.jpg
The bike had a pair of 36mm forks (possibly GPZ) that were shagged, these were swapped for original 41mm GTR forks, the bar risers were chopped down and we fabbed some brackets to attach them to the top yoke.

I watched dukes of hazzard on Sunday, so on Monday this happened.

Finally, a decent fuel tank (one of a pair to go on), had to fit some higher bars to clear the tanks, and the only ones we could find were anodised purple. Great. Headlights are off a CBX750.

Last photo, taken a couple of hours ago. My awesome chequer plate "fairing" isn't quite finished, and I don't really like it, but it's probably going to stay (and will probably end up orange or black anyway)

I'll update it more regularly now I've caught up on the backlog, but I don't think it's too bad for 10 days!
p.s. forgot to mention, I helicoiled the head, sorted the electrics, and it runs nice ____________________ Current: Suzuki RG 125 Gamma, Honda H100, Triumph Tiger 800XC, Suzuki SV650 (minitwin) |

I like the original tanks, looked very wide and cool. I can see why someone might use a fire extinguisher as a budget replacement but if you already have functional petrol tanks then it is a bit poncy to use heavy extinguishers just for the looks.
Function over form an all that.
Otherwise it is cool . |

I think that is the crux of it Mark. It was looking OK beforehand, and you went and used an old fire extinguisher as a fuel tank... ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

I'm in two minds on the fire extinguisher tanks....
I think the idea is 'right', but the execution 'wrong'....
And... that burgandy paint... and black...

Reminded me of the candy twist Scott......
Started me thinking of the vogue for 'Steam-Punk'... and Edwardian Copper on the custom scene....
I think you have the ingredients there.... and with a bit of consideration, could do something VERY interesting....
Like the headlamps BTW ... but going with the theme you'd need red ones, in brass plated peaked cases!
AD on Ed: just thought... remember them square, yellow 'bulls eye' latterns they ysed to hang round road works back when I was a nipper, like before they set up ten foot halogen lighting stacks!
Going with the 'Scavenged' style.... that might be the lamp surround solution! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

The black & burgundy looked pretty good. I reckon it would look ace in a a really deep red
The comedy phallic fire extinguisher may seem like a good idea but will get old quickly. As Marjay says it looks like precisely the sort of thing that would mangle your lower body in the event of a crash too. ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600
