Or he could just return it to where he stole it from Wink

On a serious note, take the number on the barrel to a honda dealer along with the V5 or similar and they should get you a new key.

Do the 2004 Hornets have the same HISS security as the CBRs? If they do and you have lost both keys it might get very expensive.

I don't want to put the frighteners on you yet if theres no need to so I won't go into details on it.

Let us know if this barrel number thing works as I remember it not being an option when I did the same thing on my 2000 reg CBR6.

Best of luck Thumbs Up

In that case I hate to be the bearer of bad news.

If you go to a dealer and are as green as grass they will bend you over royally. The first one I went to wanted to sell me new ignition barrel, new keys, new locks, new sender unit and an new ECU. Total for that was knocking on £600 iirc. I ended up buying a new ECU (which comes with 2 keys and so dont let them charge you for them) and got it programmed by the dealer, although there are guides on the net on how to do it yourself. The two keys were then cut to match a spare that I had innocently got made when I didnt understand that HISS existed.

I was slightly lucky as I wouldnt have to buy the full lockest etc, which was V expensive as you can imagine. My total was £418 but this included having the bike collected and returned from Lancaster Honda (and when it came back they forgot to bring the keys the muppets lol).

I found a full setup of ECU and keys/barrel/locks etc in a breakers for about £300 at the time.

Check these threads out, the first one is my heartbreaking tale, the second is a much longer discussion on the subject. Again, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

thanks for the info guys. basically, long story short, my brother gave me the bike. he lost the keys and can't be bothered to get it sorted. so if I need to spend around £500 to get it going again, that's not too bad for a pretty good bike!

Best of luck mate, there was no gloating about your position there at all I hope you understand that! Ive been through it myself so I know what its like! If you are going to repair it don't let them rip you off for the sensor etc.

Thumbs Up

right, have discovered that the bike does not have HISS! it just has a key. I've been trying to get an auto locksmith out to cut me a key but I'm getting quotes around the £200 mark. the is in London - sound about right?

No it isn't. Take the top yoke off with the barrel and take it to 'Keys Galore' in Gloucester Ave NW1 and it'll be about £30
