Hey everyone,

Well a little introduction, im 21 and from the north east (in newcastle at the minute, originally from stockton).

Im currently under going my direct access, ive done CBT and the theory, i have my mod 1 booked in for early june which shouldnt be too difficult, then its just mod 2 to complete!

Any advice on the mod tests? Im pretty confident my mod 1 is up to scratch just mod 2 i get a little confused on where you need to check lifesavers etc but thats not due yet so its mainly mod 1 to concentrate on at the minute... if any of that makes sense haha.

Has anybody got any bikes which they could recommend me as my first bike? Ive always said i wouldnt get one for the road as theyre pretty dangerous in reality haha but from the lessons etc, its a must .

Im sure i would like a supersport, something like a r6 however the funds for that are not in the bank so something similar in design

I could however get a bandit 600 (as my dads selling his) but im not too keen on the design of them as theyre not a supersport

Hopefully ill see some of you in the future and have some ride outs etc!

Hey Congrats so far and Good luck with Mods 1 and 2.

Mod 1 breathe and do shoulder checks before every move.

Mod 2 breathe and treat examiner as a Sat nav....(and checks)

Bests bits of advise off all the peeps here.

and always ask a question before hand if your not sure of something. The only stupid question is the one you didnt ask!!! I am excellent at stupid questions but have learnt a lot through asking them.

good luck with your tests, welcome to bcf. How many miles will you be doing on your bike as i reckon a bandit would be more comfortable on long journeys for you

if you like a sports bike i would get one mate, granted they are quick and if you drop one then it can get pretty pricey. my way of not dropping the bike when i first got one was to always sit on it and walk it when i needed to move it, insted of pushing it stood next to it or whatever.

theres no point getting a bike you dont really like/want because you just wouldn't enjoy it in the same way.


as for tests, mod1 just breathe and check all the time and take it easy.
mod2 is easy, if you rode to the test center then you will pass to be honest.

sure youll be fine mate, i find morissons more challenging sometimes

Heyy been a while lol.

Little update I passed my mod 1 no minors and first time

Mod 2 is booked for middle of august. Any advice on this? I hear it's meant to be reaaaaally hard?

I have drove a car for 4 years and riding a bike seems totally different! Haha

Firstly, Speed limits,don't go over the limit and don't go far under, stick to about -5MPH if you can under the limit.

If your in the wrong lane to where your supposed to be, don't correct yourself at the last minute, follow the lane your in and you'll be told where to go from there.

Don't do any rash things, like pulling out because you think you can squeeze in before an oncoming vehicle. It's better to wait and be safe than go and cause the other vehicle to brake heavily for you. Safety is the main priority, for you and other road users.

Observations; don't over-do these as your meant to be looking at the road more, not the examiner behind you! Lifesaver for changing lanes, direction (turning off), pulling off from anywhere and roundabout. This is what an instructor told me at my Mod 2; MIRRORS MIRRORS MIRRORS MIRRORS. You can't over-do mirror observations, the examiners love it.

I did all my tests within a week with no lesson and 8 months experience on a bike and passed without fail. Search for other Mod 2 threads and look through them. Plenty of advice that has helped many people in the past to pass.

As already said. When ever you move around in your lane or changing lanes..CHECK. Don't forget to cancel indicators and don't worry about the independent riding! - I think I made two left hand turns and went through 1 set of traffic lights and he told me that was the end of the independent riding!

Be aware of people crossing the road as they seem to fuck things up for people a lot and they will more than likely take you down a 20mph zone so watch out for the speed limit signs!

Then you should be back at the test centre with the piece of paper saying you have your license!

Well i passed my mod 2 on the 30th August

It was my second time, first time i failed for following distance, i was a little close to a lorry on a 50mph road - would it have been a 30mph road id of passed.

First test 1 major and 1 minor
Second test 2 minors and a pass

Soooooo here i am, full licence, 21 year old and rearing to go!

I know there is a lot of people who disagree with me here but for my first bike im wanting something like an r6. Ive looked at them, read up on them, watched vids on youtube about their twitchy throttle etc.

But tbh, before the insults its something i would be happy with, any other bike wouldnt put so much of a smile on my face. No idea why but my heart is set on an r6.

One problem is though, insurance.. its coming in at around £4000 per year!! Any cheaper places? Or hints to lower it?

I know if i 'front' the insurance it goes down to £241.11 per year.. however thats not really the route i would like to go.

I would only be using the bike for say 1 day a week - if that - as i have my car were its nice and warm So in essence i wouldnt be fronting the insurance as my dad could use it any other day that im not?

Anyways, are there any other bikes which you could suggest which is nice and sporty - like the r6 - but lower on insurance?

well done for passing 21 years old = nipper, nipper + sports bike = high insurance .....the end.....BTW....I am old & I consider everything above £100 fully comp for 12 months to be expensive

May I recommend the CBR600F (no...not just because I have one) sporty enough yet won't kill you and is more comfortable than the R6.
