Track Day Bike

Me and a mate are thinking about going halves on a bike to use for trackdays. I am thinking RGV250 or KR1S, any other suggestions? It needs to bo relatively cheap, as we're are only 17 on shit wages!

Look at damaged reairables as well, it may take a bit of time with the spanners to get it ready but should save you some cash.

Go for a crashed 400, or possibly a 250 2 squeak. Zims bike still for sale?

Also check about licencing. Track days might well insist you need a full licence

Get an older NSR 250. They are really fast.. i recommend the MC18.. these are supposed to be some of the fastest NSR and quite easy to get full power (about 60+bhp and 130KG in weight!!!). If you really tweak them you can get upto 70+ bhp, thats pretty good power to weight and super handling too.

the mc18 would be very hard to find id say in any sort of useful state
try for an mc21 or maybe an 18 sp
also have a lookie for 94 ish rs250's
and maybe, coz they do come up every now and again a honda rs 125 which would be faster than the above if tuned at all(which it probably will be)

the bike tyre company near me has a bloke whos 19 racin one of those
they are tiny and very good 4 tracks
wont require the rebuildin u will HAVE to do on strokers

you need full leathers and an ACU helmet to go on the track don't you? remember to factor in the cost of riding gear.

You need full leathers but the ACU licence is required for racing use, not just trackdays.

As to a bike I would be dubious about a 250 2 squeak, especially an NSR. They need more maintenance (not much of a problem), but are also peakier and harder to ride. Not ideal for a first track bike. Add to which the NSR is only an import and not a very common one at that, so spares will not be easy to find and the chances are that you will need them. Waiting ages for an original Honda fairing at a frightening cost would be pretty awful compared to ringing up a race supplier for a ZXR cheap fairing and getting it the following day

Something like a Honda RS125 would be very quick, but really peaky and need loads of maintenance. Also it might have problems with noise at many track days.

I think that he was referring to the "gold sticker" on the back of the helmet, Keith, and not the full blown ACU license...

Anyhoo, how were you guys planning to transport the bike to the track?...and as Keith says, don't go too crazy with the performance parts, as some tracks have stricter noise limits than others...(Castle Coombe says that the bike needs to be *completely* road legal - so no race cans at all! )
