Yamaha Neos 50 - won't start :-(

Was going along the other day, it lost all power, when I applied any throttle it just seemed to die and after about 10 seconds of rolling it died. I tried to start it and then all I heard was a bang out the exhaust (backfire) and now it hasnt started since, It had fuel in and had a full tank of castrol 2t oil..

I ran out of petrol the other week and I took the carb apart and cleaned it 'cos i had sucked all the debris and stuff through.

Had a few mates round to see if we could get it started last night, its got a spark. Theres fuel going to the carb not sure about to the engine..

Anyone shed any light as to what it could be?

Edit : my kick start is also grinding as I kick it, sounds really bad.. doesnt spring back up either..?

Could be your carb again. Maybe flooding, check the float height or the float needle is worn or stuck causing TOO MUCH fuel to enter the float chamber.

Before that I would check the simple stuff like fuses, battery and the rest.

As for the kickstart, get your drive belt cover off and take a look at the teeth on the kickstart quadrant and engaging pinion.
If all is good, put a bit of 3 in 1 all over them and this should give it a smoother action as you kick it and should spring back again.

do you have any compression for a start? If its grinding, then its possible the piston has shattered itself and blown up. Full top end rebuild me thinks.

Not had a compression test but stuck my hand over spark plug hole and its blowing my hand so i'm sure it isn't a compression issue..

I had a similar problem on my vivacity, turned out to be a wire break in the immobilizer antenna. the back fire was due to flooding of the carb.

worth check I replaced my antenna and it works.

it's being sold tomorrow! still not running but it's gonna be someone elses problem now, can't be bothered with it!
