Right, so I have one of these;
https://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/248447_10150609882175545_538730544_18455819_8267551_n.jpg
I've been fettling with it continuously and now it's actually running/riding really well...
Until yesterday, where it developed the need to be kicked about 10 times before it caught. I went to go have a look today and the bastard wouldn't start at all.
Got the plug out, jet black but a good spark. Electric starter wouldn't even spin the engine, and bumping didn't work. Cleaned off the plug and reset the gap a bit closer so it sparked well (being kicked). Still think it needs a new battery, but after some cleaning of all the points I go it started today.
One thing that seems to be the main issue is the choke assembly, or rather, I'm not sure which position the choke is off. I've been experimenting and fully up/fully down seemed to work best. But after fouling the plug I was obviously wrong.
Today it would only start in the middle (after messing about for an hour). Seems to be a vane between carb and airbox (will clean out/check airbox tomorrow) but was curious if anyone knew how this arcane bastard works?

Also, the cable and block to the left of the picture are attached to what /should/ be the choke lever, but obviously at the moment it's flapping loose. It doesn't fit into the choke lever at present, and the little dowel inside wouldn't fit the gap in the lever anyway...
Also, this is the first bike I've had with a manly kick start. Trying to pre-compress (or whatever it's called) with one slow steady push followed by a proper kick, it stops halfway sometimes and kicks back like a cunt. Does that just mean really good compression, or something I should be worried about?
If someone can find out the microfiches for this I'd be grateful. Or where I can find some info on the bike to help the search? ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
From September 2014 to January/February 2015 I will not be using any English, nor reading any. As such, I won't be on here. PM at will, but I won't be checking/posting unless in emergencies. Certainly not for the first couple of months. Please berate me savagely if I break that rule... |

Cheers fella.
Idle speed barely changes for some reason, and I'm in Vietnam so theres no such thing as a cold start. Weird that it's having such a marked effect
Will try to find the idle screw tomorrow as well.
Any good ways to test how much poke/life is left in a battery? It sparks a bridging screwdriver, and the lights will come on with just the ignition on but not running... but it won't turn over now (with button). I've had shitty 125's 4t's I've run without batteries before, just using kick, so I know they're not that important....
And what is the bit called that charges the battery. Because that could be the issue, not the battery
In a perverse way, I've missed this kind of irritation ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

Also, please idiot friendly 'fully up' for me.
If the lever is fully up, than the actuator is fully down, so I'd guess the butterfly would be fully closed. But I'm not sure whether it is mounted inline or perpendicular... ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

This may help;

I don't think it's standard, I've never been on a 125 with so much poke... although it only has 4 gears I suppose.
The lights just always work it seems, but the starter used to occasionally work. Or would at least turn the engine, even if it only caught when warm.
Could be the battery isn't holding a charge. I think I can replace it for 6 quid, so will probably do that tomorrow and give that a go. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

Ooooh, god this thing is irritating sometimes.
Spent yesterday checking contacts etc, got it started. Today, cleaned out the airbox (removing the wad of bubblewrap blocking one inlet, and all the sand inside the box) and made it spangly.
Got it so that it started with the gentlest of wafts near the kickstart... even the battery charged up enough to start on the button.
Took a friend to the shops, and even she noticed how great it was running. Parked it in the sweatbox dungeon and went shopping. By the time I'd come out, it had cooked it's ECU/Reg (not sure which, the bastard that controls the spark directly), and now I'm going to have to pay $30 for a new one. Sad times.
How the hell does that even happen Everyone is besmerching my good bike. How dare they... ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
