evening guys, im trying to bleed my kmx mikuni oil pump/injector since i had several holes in my oil tank and totaly emptied. in a way its a good job because the 2cycle oil that was in there was think with white crap. anyway ive fixed the holes and put fresh 2cycle oil in and attemped to bleed my oil pump with no luck. oil is freely flowing down the feeder pipe that connects to the pump and ive also took the bleed screw out(1st pic) untill oil was freely flowing without any air. ive tightend that nut back up but the oil isnt coming out the other end? i twist the throttle to opperate the pump with no signs of life. ive got a feeling the bike needs to be running for the oil to be forced through the pump but i just would like to double check or get the correct instructions on how to bleed it. many thanks

Take it off and force it through using a drill on the reverse?

Shocked i have to remove my right side case to remove the oil pump, what would i connect the drill too anyway? theres only 2 lines going to and from the pump and a actuator which turns 180degrees to allow the oil through

in the past iv just bled it as you have then started the bike, let it idle but manually 'opened' the oil pump lever with your finger so the pump is working full chat but the engine is still at idle, if alls well then withing a second or two you will have oil in the pipe at the carb/cylinder,
if it doesnt look like its going to bleed thru quick then drain the fuel tank and mix up a litre or so of pre-mix (petrol/oil) and idle the bike with that so you dont bugger it up Very Happy

The engine needs to be running to pump the oil through. If you are overly concerned then just put a small amount (literally a couple of drops) directly in the engine through the spark plug hole.

Disconnect the pipe from the carb and you will see the oil slowly ooze, remember the bike doesn't use much at all.

On my RS125, I believe Pete took the pump off and turned it manually. When the engine is running I think it sits on a little shaft that spins in relation to the engine?

Where'd you learn that Paddy? Very Happy

benell09, if you were to remove the pump you would find that it is driven by a shaft/cog on the back. You can use a battery drill to spin the pump and check it's working. It wouldn't take long for oil to pump out of the end.

What I would do, now that you have primed the pump, is remove the black delivery pipe and fill it with a syringe then re-fit it to the engine. Run the engine for a short while to confirm the pump is pumping them fit the delivery hose to the pump and you are good to go. Ride the bike gently for the first few minutes.

I pre-mixed the mito 350 using a temporary tank, then just swapped back once it was bled through.

thanks for your help guys, from looking at "spare" oil pumps on ebay i see there is a white cog that i can relate from reading your posts spins up when the bike it ticking over and pumps the oil through and i understand the drill method now Laughing would it be wise to fill half a tank of pre mix then let the oil pump do its thing and re attach when the oil is pumping out as normal, i think someone has posted something similar but im half asleep with sore eyes

I've always just dropped a tiny bit of oil into the tank, mixed it about.
Then start the bike up on tick over, and opened the pump fully at the pump end, rather than revving the engine up with the throttle.

Takes about a minute to fully bleed.

Hi

Use a small amount of pre mixed oil / petrol to run the engine for a short while, and while it is running hold the lever on the oil pump the cable connects to wide open.

You don't need to run it for long for the oil to get through.

All the best

Keith
