Okay, just spent a hefty sum getting my bike ready for the mot. Just a few things I am concerned about that I wanted to ask your opinions.

Firstly, when I sprayed my exhaust, I took it off and the bracket that secures it to the frame snapped. I didn't replace it is it would need welding. It is currently held on by the bolts into the cylinder and the hanger and it is secure, but is that bracket required?

Also, my thermostat didn't work so I bought a temperature gauge and that works lovely. I just wanted to know that is it compulsory to have a working one? I could bodge my current one to make it look like it works but when we put the temperature gauge in, we broke the top off of the thermostat off to see if it would go in there. But it didn't Razz

So do I need a thermostat and an exhaust bracket?

Also, my front is getting a bit bald in some parts. I have heard that 50's only need visible tread. Is this true?

Ta Thumbs Up

Hi

If the exhaust is secure it should be fine.

Stat doesn't matter for the MOT.

A 50 only needs clearly visible tread the whole way round and over the full width.

All the best

Shit, I forgot one more.

There is a little rubber dust boot on the bottom of my rear master cylinder. I think when it was new there was a sort of retaining spring that expanded and grabbed it from the inside. It always falls down and I can clip it up but by the time I reach my destination it will fall down.

It is right at the bottom where the actual pin goes into the cylinder.

Would a picture make this clearer?

I can't find a replacement clip, so would it fail because this boot isn't on properly? (which I may be able to clip on around the corner before I do last minute checks).

Hi

Nothing about that in the MOT manual. As long as it doesn't adversely affect the brakes it should be fine

All the best

No not at all. Only notice it when I get off the bike Laughing
