Just finished rebuilding the mechanics and got it running tonight...first time for two years!

It starts with just a half-hearted kick with the choke on and sounds really sweet but the idle speed is quite high. When i take it off choke the revs drop gradually to the point where it cuts out.

Opening the throttle a bit will keep it going but if i only catch it when the revs have dropped right down to a normal idle speed then it's reluctant to pick up and rev.

Wondering if maybe the idle jet is blocked? I have cleaned and flushed the tank as there was quite a bit of rust inside, and the carb has been completely stripped and cleaned but maybe a little bit more rust has come through?

Anything else to check that might give these symptoms?

If i set the idle speed to a sensible speed it just cuts out, only holding the throttle open to maybe at least a couple of thousand revs will keep it going.

I've tried tweaking the pilot air screw form it's factory setting (1 1/8 turns out) but this seems to make very little difference. Is it possible to clean the pilot jet by removing this screw and blowing into it's hole?

take it for a good run, they need warming up for a good 10 mins before any idle adjustment. My H100S is the same but once its nice and warm its tickover nicely

When I got my bike (another h100a) the idle speed was set pretty high, so I turned the idle speed down a quater of a turn. I now find it wont idle for long for the first 10 minutes. I usually start on the choke, put my helmet on, choke off, then full throttle to clear excess oil and get clean running (20 secs) then have to blip the throttle every now and agin while I put my gloves on. She's normally fine by the time I have to stop at the first junction at the bottom of the road.

I would give the jets a good clean through as i've had problems with crap in my tank before where she ran fine with choke on but poor with off- best thing I ever did was fit an inline fuel filter.

Agree with Paddy

DON'T full throttle a cold 2 stroker, let the oil clear itself overtime. Best way to kiss the engine goodbye!

Well its the only 2t I've ever had, but yeah it normally idles for a few minutes then I clear it. Sounds like its got a smokers cough and misfires otherwise. I wouldnt say it was full throttle pinned back but a few revs clear it- lasted six months so far Confused

Yea... basically i've owned a KH125 and an RS125, neither would I dare rev them until warm, one is a pussy commuter, the other a highly strung race rep.

You should just fire it up, pop your lid n gloves and ride away without giving it loads of revs until its warm... i'd give the RS about 5minutes, the temp says around 60 degrees then, the KH...you could just feel when it was ready to go.

You will murder your engine revving it like that Rolling Eyes

So today i had a little time...took the carb off and stripped it. The float height isn't quite right, the original specs states they should be at 13.5 mm but these sit at 12.5mm. Well, no petrol comes out of the overflow so it's not critical although the mixture might be slightly affected apparently.

However lol...when i eventually located the idle jet by following the moulding of the carb body from the idle mixture screw i held a little bit of hose against it and blew. After nearly going blue in the face (!) i decided yes it must be blocked. I sprayed loads of carb cleaner in and kept trying to blow but no luck so despite the general advice that you shouldn't poke anything in i used just one strand of copper wire from a bit of cable. Just a little pressure on it and i felt something 'give'...another squirt of carb cleaner and a tiny dark lump of crud fell out of the main inlet!

Refitted the carb, gave it some choke, one small kick and it just ran on a smooth low tickover....success!!
