I'm getting a 2000 rs 125 today for 600 pounds. However I haven't got transport and cant ride it away as it needs its battery replacing. However Its only about a mile and a half-2 miles from my house. Is it ok to push along the pavement? I'm not in any rush and its only around 120kg

"Only" 120kg get heavy after the first 1/2 mile or so but unless you are 6 stone wet it shouldn't be too difficult.

Are you insured on it? You'll need it just to push it.

I wouldn't recommend it personally, low clipons and an obstructive tank make pushing sports bikes up hills a not so fun experience. I've ran out of fuel at penny come quick roundabout a few times on various bikes now, I managed to wheel my XJR up the hill with little trouble, but on the SP1 I had less than no chance without roping in someone to help.

Personally I'd suggest seeing if a local bike workshop will move it for you in their van for a reasonable fee. Keep in mind that as Marmalade points out, chances are any plod that spot you are going to be (rightly) giving you hassle along the way too.

If it is on the public highway (road or pavement) it had to be taxed and insured.

You might, possibly get away with it if you were to strap one of the wheels to a skateboard as then it has only one wheel on the highway.

Same as a car becomes a trailer that doesn't need to be taxed or insured if being towed with 2 wheels raised

I have pushed the RS125 for 3, maybe 4 miles and got cramps after.

It's light and manageable, but with a helmet and gear, it was hot, very hot. Unless you're really fit, and it's totally flat, you should sweat a lot.

Am I correct in assuming you havent seen this RS running?

Please tell me you have read about RS125s and their expensive rebuilds...£600 seems quite cheap. I had a 2000 model, locally they were going 1k ish.

I thought that the flat battery seemed a bit dodgy too. You're right, it migjt be messed up.

Here's a novel suggestion:

Buy a battery. Take it with you to the seller. Put the battery in the bike. Start bike. Ride home.

If the bike doesn't start, you'll know why the seller wanted £600 for it.

Not a good Idea. Its heavier than you think and any slight incline it will be very hard to push.

Man up! I pushed my RG 6 miles to a petrol station, it took 2 hours, but I got there alright Laughing

In your situation, I'd probably just bump start it, or take a battery / jump pack with me.

Very much so

If it was worth decent money he'd stick a battery on it and sell it for what it's worth. Not sell it to someone who believes it 'runs like new, just needs a battery mate'

Tell him you are bringing a battery and are riding it home. See what his reaction is.

I wouldn't mind even if it did need more than the battery, as I wanted a 2 stroke project for the summer and have the cg to ride in the meantime. But I went to the local motorcycle shop and the bloke there said he'd transport it for 30 pounds. But I'll let you guys know how I got on with it and if the risk was worth it.

£30, grab it

£900 fine and 9 points for no insurance. £150~ for recovery plus £15 a day storage until you can turn up to collect it (or bike shop collect it for you from them for £30 Wink ) £100 fine for no tax, if you are lucky.

I'd say £30 for a trouble free, non pushing, non getting nicked option was a pretty safe bet

This! in the two years I had a Speedfight I bet I pushed it(them) well over 30 miles. But yes, if you are going to buy an RS that doesn't work and have to push it, wear shorts and t-shirt, even if it's like -3 :l hot work

Ok, lets say you did that Wilson. You wander along in your favourite burberry cap, and your very best Kappa trackies with your reebok classics on. You push the bike out of the driveway and up the street. As you do this, PC Plod happens to be driving past in his area car. He sees a young lad wearing trackies and a burberry cap pushing a 125cc motorcycle up the road...

What is he going to think? Is he going to think

A) What a jolly shame that young fellow has broken down

B) That young man is merely pushing his bike as he has not yet arranged tax or insurance and it won't start anyway

or C) That kid has just nicked someones pride and joy!

I'll give you a hint, it aint going to be A or B! Wink

Pushed a 125 6 miles on NYE once after it ate a 'G' clip. Took me 4 or 5 hours.

Knackered me 100%.

meh, no mot, tax and im not insured for it. Probably part of the reason why its at such a low price. Seller said it had a rebuild in 2006 and hasn't done a mile since, and hasn't been turned over for 2 years
