Ad Trader is a good place to look. Bike Trader is also worth having a look at, so is eBay. Between them you'll find a good number of suitable bikes to choose from in your area. Thumbs Up

Why is it everyone who wants to buy 125s want to spend only about a grand??? Rolling Eyes

Most good 125's are 2 strokes. 2 strokes need to be very well maintained. You may find and buy a cheap bike but you get what you pay for and in the long run you better have very deep pockets.

Pay a bit more for a well maintained bike and it will cost you less in the long run.

Im selling mine for £1700 (open to offers) but for that your getting a well maintained bike with low milage yet everyone would rather have a high milage cheap tatty bike. The choice is yours but do your research and you will see 2 strokes are completely different from 4 strokes in the maintenance stakes.

Probably because, like me, they only want to run it for a year or so to gain experience and then ditch it as soon as they've done their DAS/A2 whatever.
In fact, a grand is twice what I'd like to spend Wink

Dozzie, the only reason you say that is because you're trying to sell a more than his price range bike.

No, not most good 125's are 2 strokes. A cg125 which is a four stroke will go on and on, but will still be just as good and useful as a two stroke. So you find a cheap bike you get a bad bike? I had a 2003 NSR, it died several times but it was serviced correctly etc. G had a about 10 years old NSR which was much more reliable, so no that's not true.

Yes two strokes are a lot different two four strokes, two stroke need more than a four stroke and that's about it.

The reason people (wisely) don't want to spend much more than £1k is because it will do exactly the same job, will drop less in value, and most learners will drop their bike and shiney new ones the effect will be worse on the wallet on a newer bike.

Ste, you cant classify a cg125 in the same category as an RS125. Im going with the general conception that most young new riders would rather go for a performance 125 rather than an everyday workhorse.

I bought my RS125 about 2 years ago and have had friends buy similar bikes but with much smaller budgets. One had to do a rebuild 2 months after buying the bike and anothers cluth was needed replacing as it was in such a bad state.

My point is yes you can get cheaper bikes and keep them for a year and sell them on but more likely than not they will need a lot attention and will need a lot of spending money on them. And yes it does depend on luck sometimes that you might get a bike that wont give you much problems.

Most new riders buying 2 strokes do not realise how costly a rebuilt is and some dont even know why the engines need rebuilding after certain milage when buying an 2 stroke.

And yes im a saying this because i want to sell my bike but anyone who knows 2 strokes well will tell you that in general what im saying is true. There are exceptions to every rule and you could point them out till the cows come home.

My original point: Spend a few hundred quid more and it may cost you less in the long run.

or even better... save up even more and get a brand new bike!!! Razz . You get a decent aftersales package in the end which usually consists of breakdown recovery and stuff like that... free TPO insurance if your lucky. I got my XR for 2100 and it's on 0% finance. But it is an XR and not and RS though. I've also discovered that the people who buy XR's tend to be Yuppies or post graduate type peeps after visiting a few private sales.

If you're planning to go 2-stroke, just bear in mind the costs of running them. Alternatively, you could go for something less exciting... i.e. a 4 stroke and be left with something more reliable... a workhorse, rather than a performance machine which sees most of its life in a garage somewhere waiting for parts.

as much as i would want a good nick aprillia RS, £1700 is way outside of my price range, and london is like 70 miles away from me which is to far to travel

i am very sure about the cost of running 2 strokes, my brother had an rs50 which went bang after cheap 2 stroke oil and then an NS125r which went bang after broken piston ring and he rebuilt them both himself

i really dont earn or have enough money to get a new bike either, as appealing as that sounds and im sorry but i dont want a crosser either

a 4 stroke does sound appealing, but to be honest i think cg125s look a bit old fashioned (no offence to those who have them), and i dout that they would go as fast, (would a four stroke 125 even reach 70mph?)

anyone know of any 4stroke 125 race lookin bikes then tell me

thanx

ps i realise this isnt my topic i got confused but oh well

They are not restricted as they do not make enough power to break the 14.6hp. The CBR125 will do 70mph, probably 75-80mph down hill with some wind behind you. Acceleration is nothing special, it is something like 15 seconds to 60.

If you want a 'fast' 125cc then get a de restricted 2 stroke like an NS/NSR/RS/MITO/TZR etc

I have a 15 year old NSR125, it had doen 14k kilometers and was still going, the bike had been thrashed through most of those miles, no idea what oil was used. Treat them well and they will last you, 2 stroke oil does not cost much, you don't have to use the £10 a litre two stroke oil. A top end rebuild (if you do it yourself) for an NSR125 isn't all that expensive, the 5.99 a litre oil I use (castrol super TT) is fine.

70mph would be fast enough for me anyway, but the acceleration sounds a bit shit

Trail style 4 stroke 125s are pretty good... i manage 65mph from my XR and 70 down a shallow gradient with tailwind or a level dual carraigeway. Acceleration is not as bad as one may think... It's got more grunt lower down in the rev range than a 2 stroke... I'm not trying to brag about anything or trying to imply that i race, but i beat my friend's NSR off the lights - he had to rev his thing to get it going, but mine pulls away from tickover. 4 Strokes sound much ballsier than a hairdryer so that's a plus point!

Mind you that MZ is nice looker..

BTW, do any of you in the UK know any places which sell exhausts for an XR - the stock ones look totally naff and are black Crying or Very sad .
