Does anyone see anything wrong with putting stickers on a helmet?
All my friends are saying not to do it because it will suposedly grip the ground in a crash, but when i asked a garrage they said "the manufacturers put stickers on them...".

So whats everyones view on this?
The only reason im asking is because i randomly bought a "Ayrton Senna" sticker, but had no real use for it. So it went on my lid...

Depends what your lid's made of.

I think it's plastic ones your not supposed to put stickers on, the glue/adhesive reacts with the plastic in some way.

I've heard a few reasons why you shouldn't put stickers on a helmet, some more plausible than others, but the sticker "gripping the ground in a crash" is not one of them.

I shall use it in conversation henceforth. Cool

Hear at the cbt that if you put it on the plastic helmets it can affect them with the adhesive getting into the plastic and potentially causing damage Question .
However the carbon helmets and the newer helmets are supposedly have a protective coating over the top making them able to support stickers without potentially damaging them. That is what I heard anyway not sure if everyone here would agree. Thinking

Thats like not going out on certain days because statistically you are more likely to crash on that day of the week.

something like, not wearing gloves is concerning. As for stickers? May as well ride in a 4x4 Jeep for increased safety

But cosmetically once you put that sticky s**te on the lid its going to have to stay there. Ripping it off will only make it look like someone jizzed on your head.

Certain adhesives (and paints) contain solvents which can damage some kinds of plastic; the damage could be softening, hardening, eating it away, or a combination of these.

The reason why the makers can do it is, they know which solvents are in what adhesives/paints, and whether or not they damage the plastic their helmet is made from.

Unless you send parts of your helmet/sticker/paint to a lab for chemical analysis, you will never know this until it's too late, and this is the reason why it's not recommended that you randomly paint or sticker up thermoplastic/polycarbonate helmets.

Or don't buy a thermoplastic lid. Only the *really* cheap lids are made out of it anyway.

I see plenty wrong with putting stickers on helmets, but for none of the reasons you're suggesting, I'm just being a grumpy old fecker (not too old!) who stopped putting stickers on things when I was past 14...

However, I am still a tart - if the maker covers it in logos I'm happy!

I suggest you find new friends, the ones you hang around with at the moment are clearly as thick as mince.

What a coincidence, I have the same helmet.

https://my.picresize.com/vault/2T1ZPCTCEJ.jpg

I've got 2 BCF stickers and 2 monster ones on either side of the visor.
Can't see it affecting how the helmet performs in a crash.

Go crazy and put as many as you want on it.

I've a BCF one on the back of mine. If I fall off and the helmet dies because of the sticker I'll just sue Marmalade for making them. Laughing Laughing Laughing
