Only had this bike a few days so a bit unsure Confused

Basically at around 5K (Maybe more, cant hear above that with the wind) there is a noise from the engine. Sounds like someone chattering their teeth together really fast.

It also happens when engine braking.

Is this the infamous CCT problem? I'm hoping its that and not valves out of spec.

CBR 600, 2000, 15K miles

Cheers!

Camchain tensioner. Is quite straightforward to fix apparently.

Mine is very noisy at 5k, never been an issue tbh. It has gotten a little noisier lately, however my bike is at 31.5k or so, and is due a vavle adjustment.

PS. Update your sig Wink

Nice bike by the way, I like the colour scheme Wink

Yeah valves could do with checking aswell. I was just hoping it was the CCT rather than valves tbh.

Also im hearing mixed reports. Some people are saying if the CCT is rattling its bad news, the timing could slip and I should sort it ASAP!
Others are saying its just blocked with oil, could do with a clean but in the meantime its just slapping about inside the engine Confused

Which am I supposed to do?

If its constant its more likely to be the valves.

If it comes and goes when revving up and down I'd say the cct.

Mine has a rattle at 5k due to CCT. It's on it's 3rd now: If I had known the previous owner had changed it for the "uprated" one I wouldn't have bothered.

It's a bit noisy but Idon't believe it is a dangerous noise, just an annoying one.

Mine is also louder when coming down to 5k, comes from the RHS of the engine and sounds like a load of bolts rattling in a frying pan.

Have you changed one on that model CBR?

You need a hand like jeremy beadle and a series of socket bends and extensions going through a hole in the frame to undo them. It's a simple albeit very annoying job Smile .
