Hi Guys.
I want to paint my calipers again, last time i did them with a brush and it looks crap.

So i need to spray them... my question is...

If i undo the bolt, will the fluid piss out everywhere? or will it stay in the hose? or shall i do something to the hose to stop it leaking out?

And if i dont mess about with it too much, will i need to bleed them again when i hook them back up?

Im going to buy some DOT4 anyway just incase, just dont want brake fluid on my expensive paintjob!

Thanks

It'll leak a bit, but since you need to bleed the brakes if you open the system up to the atmosphere I'd just get a rag to soak it up.

If you undo the banjo bolt then yes probably.

If youre going to paint them then you might aswell strip them too for a better job.

If your worried about your paint job then take the master cylinder, hose and caliper off together then disconnect them away from the bike.

You will have to bleed again anyway, so this is the safest way.

It depends, I've removed me calipers twice, once it came pishing out, the other time it got airlocked or something and there was only a dribble.

Just get the rag just in case or

Yes, well im still waiting for my exhaust system so i now have the time to piss about with them, may grease and copper slip them all up too.

They have been painted about 3 times now so will need to strip some paint off them before i spray them.

If the DOT4 leaks out and i capture it, will it be useful/safe to use as a paint stripper for removing the current paint off the calipers?

Ive seen what it can do to cars... Laughing

Erm your caliper paint should be resistant to brake fluid!

Its not caliper paint Laughing i use Plastikote paint, the stuff in the little pots.

The red stuff is very good and is almost brushless when dry, seems to last for aggges and is about £4 and will do about 20 calipers Laughing

i think its enamel based, so may take abit to shift it off

Hmm. If its not brake specific temperature resistant then it may still struggle!

If youve used it before then fair enough.

If youve got the calipers off and to be bled again.. might aswell pop the pistons out and give them a clean up and coat the seals in red rubber grease Smile

Take the M/C and hoses off as one.

Lay rags down away from bike, I have an old washing up bowl for that. Take pads out and pump pistons out. Just crack banjo in the bowl...if it pisses out you can use it and a wire brush to get rid of that paint.

Then strip, clean, I found that coca cola bottle caps fitted in my supra calipers when I thought about painting them. Could see if you can fll the gaps for the pistons and then spray the things Thumbs Up

If you can raise the caliper and keep the end of the hose above the master cyl, then you will only leak fluid out of the caliper. Remember to cover and end the end so it does not absord moisture/crap.

But if you are repainting the calipers, you might as well flush the whole system and put fresh fluid in.

It will drip, let it drip into a container, to be honest with you your better off just bleeding them dry then removing.

Brake cleaner or water will get rid of brake fluid, don't let it near you paint work.

As said, strip old paint off, primer then paint.

You could as said remove in one but... Your just over complicating a simple job.
