Only if there were no signs of mould and it still smelt ok, l only use best before dates as a rough guide. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

Hmmmmm ... Monday?
I've got a Coronation Chicken sandwich filler that says the 10th, and I'm a bit nervous about that.
Think I'll stick to sausage rolls and hash browns. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Thing is, those sort of things don't have proper hermetic seal, so I'm always a bit funny about them.
I opened a pot of fromage frais yesterday which said the 2nd of July, but it had that plastic seal under the lid. Those pre-prepared salads and sandwich filler type things really only have that labelly bit of tape.
I've eaten loads of them over the years, and sometimes (e.g. in coleslaw or potato salad), you get a kind of "fizzy" taste and you know you're pushing your luck.
Having said that, I've almost always been lucky when I've gone by smell and lack of mould (or maybe I just have more cast-iron guts than I realise )
And when it comes to cheese and bread, I tend to just cut the mould off anyway, its got to be REALLY bad before I don't attempt a mould-removal service. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

I wouldn't touch it.
Not because of the age thing, but because it contains no meat and is hom food.

Use your common sense. That's what we did before use by dates.
If it smells and looks ok, chances are you'll be ok. Or die of a really bad boy food poisoning disease. ____________________ My Flickr |

I can't see it being bad that easily. If it's sealed, then no bacteria can get in. The food will be pasteurised when potted. With the tomato sauce being acidic, not to mention the preservatives in there, I don't think bacteria will be able to grow. If it's been chilled that'll curb bacteria growth further.
So I don't think you would get ill eating it.
I eat food past the 'sell by date' all the time. Just use your nose and scrape the mould off first. ____________________ ZX6R C6F.

Seeing as the OP has not posted again yet, is it time to maybe consider a pasta-pot search party? |

With food like this I take the Morrisons* approach to best before dates.
1. Whole chicken - remains in the chiller for a week or so until it reaches its best before date. If its not turned green, sticker it up with a later date.
2. If it has still not sold, bung it in the rotisserie and leave it to sweat for 3-4 days. Some mug will buy the cooked chicken to have with a salad or something.
3. If it still hasn't sold, slice up and repackage as sandwich meat/filling.
4. If it still hasn't sold after a few more days, take home and give it to the dog.
Basically, if it smells OK and hasn't turned a funny colour, its edible
*I have been reliably informed that this happens on a regular basis ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600

The only thing like this I know they do like this in Tesco is with the bakery bread.
Once the unsliced bread reaches it's sell by, they slice it then re-tag it with a later date.
I always pick up a sliced loaf and ask them to Slice it there and then. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.
