I have a bizarre phobia in that, if I visit people who's pets seemingly take over the house (as in their hair gets everywhere or the cat litter tray lives in the kitchen) when I visit I will refuse a drink, unless I can make it (whereby I will rinse, empty then re-fill the kettle, rinse a mug and wipe the surfaces down before making the drink and I will always refuse home-cooked food. Sick

There are some friends who must wonder why I never ever eaten nor had a drink at their house. Exclamation

Does anyone else share this phobia?
Has anyone had a similar phobia which they have managed to overcome?

Letting other people ride my bike.

Infact, no one has for my current bike. Laughing

Only way to get over it is to force yourself to do it!

I used to hate going for a shit anywhere but my own bog, and if I had to I would practically build a nest out of bog roll in order to keep me safe.

But I subjected myself to it over and over again, and now there is nothing better than spending half an hour at work in the morning laying a cable while reading the paper.

Quick wipe around the seat to clear the piss off the seat from the nightshift and I'm on it!

Force myself to potentially eat someone else's dog/cat hair... Shocked it makes me boak just thinking about it...!!! At least doing a dump you're expelling things from your body, not putting alien things in!!! Laughing

It's a subjective phobia though...it doesn't apply to everyone with animals, only those who are happy having cat / dog hair on their work surfaces whilst they prepare food. Idea

As it is, I grew up on a small holding, we had a collection of several different animals. Funnily enough I can't eat chicken which has been cooked with a quill stuck in it's skin either.

Her fur gets in the food.....somehow. I used to hook them out, but to be honest when I see them now I can't be arsed!! Embarassed

As you get older you realise what a load of bollocks it is. And are parents on the most part were conditioned early on in their lives by the introduction of media and more importantly, commercial advertising.

Then our parents passed on the lies of old to us, so we too grow up buying lots of products we don't need.

Now someone earlier mentioned basic hygiene, which is correct, emphasis on the work basic.

Theres a clear reason why many kids are full of allergy's etc, as they have not been exposed to a sufficient amount of bacteria / germs etc, and are therefore not as healthy as other kids, all because of the lining of commercial pockets through the doom and gloom lies of illness and disease that does not actually materialise in anyway near the quantity they would have us believe, should we not buy said products.

Basic hygiene, is washing your hands after a shit, and not mixing cooked and uncooked meats. Having a shower every few days, or more if you have exerted yourself.

I have asda bleach, degreaser, cheapo toilet cleaner, wet wipes and bathroom ' stuff '. All the rest is overkill and a waste of money imo.

See the reality of whats NEEDED, not reacting to an ingrain thought process imprinted long long ago. Smile

I refuse to eat or drink at homes that I think looks dirty. When I say dirty, I mean sticky carpets that stick to my shoe. Cat smell and fur around etc...

I use to go with an optom to test home visit patients and some were just unable to clean let alone get up.

Often it would be piss, real bad. Most had junk everywhere, and it was clearly dirty.

I wont eat or drink in a dirty bastards house, but I don't think its a phobia as such.

Animals make no difference to me as long as I'm not served dog hair and chips, or cat period and rice then I'm cool.

I had a phobia about dogs................... then I married one. Rolling Eyes

Seriously, I had a real phobia about dogs ever since I was knocked over by one as a small child. It was only when I got one as a pup that it cured me. I still get little tinges at some I see, but I just get on with it.

The thought of, or seeing someone chew wool, sets my teeth on edge.

Apart from that, the obvious, spiders, can't stand them.

I'm not a fan of drinking out of cups that's not mine. Seriously, I can visit somebody's home for years before I agree to have a drink.
And that's without any hairy pets leaving stuff everywhere. So I think your so-called phobia is pretty tame.

My major thing is cockroaches. I want to scratch my fingernails across the back of my hand with the very thought of a flying cockroach. I'd happily go out with a rusty spade to deal with a dozen snakes (& Australia has the most dangerous snakes in the world); but cockroaches I'd prefer not to.

I'm not sure that's a phobia though, they're disgusting things.

Really strange. Laughing

On the food hygiene side, either it's not as bad as everyone makes out or I have an absolute beast of a immune system. Most of the food I eat comes out of supermarket bins, I even things which I think twice about like defrosted frozen stuff I find. I've never had the slightest bit of sickness since I started eating bin-food last November. To be fair though bin-food makes you naturally cautious which is maybe an extra saftey-factor when deciding to eat something; contrasted to when I buy food I'll just munch it down without checking it over. I don't eat meat apart from fish, which may make things safer, although I have brought meat back for friends who have all been fine...

On the topic of irrational fears, mine is aliens. The thought of having some kind of alien peering in a window at me fills me with a terrible terrible fear. When I used to live out in the woods my main fear was going out at night (to turn off the inverter or take a piss) and playing the torch down one of the rides to see an alien standing there.

Totally irrational I know but still scares me, still force myself to go outside and whatever though.
