Maybe I'm missing something??

I've been replacing the old swiss cheese allen bolts for stainless steel alternatives on the Bandit recently, and in the process took the front sprocket cover off the other day...
Well I found a damaged tension spring (approx 10-15mm long, and similar to this), with one end hooked thru a small hole in the sprocket cover, and the other end missing, presumably snapped by the chain/sprocket.

I've double checked the Haynes manual and there's no mention of any tension spring, plus the bike seems to be running as normal.
So I'm wondering if I and Mr Haynes both missed something that should have been fitted??

Is it anything to do with the side stand?

There was one on the gsx I'm breaking. I believe it's part of the clutch return system. It looks like it keeps the assembly tight and not flapping around the sprocket area.

It's the return spring for the clutch lever it basically takes the little bit of slack up at the handlebar end. I think they are about £4 from a dealer you can leave it off it just means that the clutch lever does not return to a fully closed position snappily.

I might just do a temporary botch job in "modifying" a small loop in the snapped end, and extend it back to the normal length with some heavy gauge wire

Well I've managed to make a temporary fix this morning with a tie wrap ( to jimbothe)
.... and after MUCH searching, managed to find a supplier that can sell me a new replacement for the princely sum of £2.38 LOL
