I very recently just bought an R6, I've wanted one for a while. I now have the Hornet ( which I just can't bring myself to sell ) and now the R6. This is the first time I've owned more than one bike and im finding it odd. How do you guys juggle between bikes and what do I need to do to the bike if it will be sitting in the garage for a while ?
Cheers.

I don't. I generally have two or three that are working and one in a state of disrepair. I generally take the one out that I feel like taking out. I keep them all insured and SORN them if the MOT runs out and I get a tax reminder. If they've got MOT and a tax reminder comes, I just tax it.

Its not that hard. Some people have a lot more than four bikes too. Keith has somewhere in the region of 20+ bikes, most of which are probably in bits, but I suspect he has more than four working road legal bikes. G certainly does too, and has a number of other vehicles including a motorhome, a beavertail, a van and two cars. I don't know how he does it, but he does. I suspect its partially down to having a trade policy for insurance.

if your leaving it for a while just make sure you get a trickle charger,
and maybe keep the tank full also think about putting on paddock stands

Thats only good if you're storing the bike though. Surely if you own more than one bike you should really ride them all occasionally. yes I agree with leaving the battery on an Optimate or similar, but the problem I have is that I only have one optimate, and four bikes. So I generally just chop and change between bikes on a random basis to try to keep all of the batteries charged up.

Except on the MZ which I haven't ridden for about a year.

I find it best to take one bike out at a time, in my case the 450 motocrosser for off road and the FZ6 for on the main road.

Simples.. Thumbs Up

Same here. My choice tends to be weather-dependent. All 3 are kept road-legal cos it doesn't cost a lot. If the weather looks shit I take the zephyr, if it looks nice I take the VS800, if it looks nice and the route doesn't involve hill starts I take the VS1400! (Although that is mostly getting ridden by the OH at the moment).

I did struggle at first switching from an IL4 commuter to a vtwin cruiser and back - if I'd been mostly riding one I would sort of forget how to ride the other one Embarassed but the more time has gone by the better that gets.

I've got the CBR600 and the DT now, and whichever i feel like taking out i will take out. DT is more for bad weather and shorter journeys, as the CBR is in great condition for it's age, so that's really my weekend toy.

Isnt' that hard though. Thumbs Up

I specialise the bikes. Bike one is taken out in good weather. It's a single seater, quick, fun and a bit shouty. It wears sticky sports tyres. It's also worth a few bob. Great for blasts, not so good for long distances.

Bike two is a bit scuffed and not worth much. It's a sports tourer so a comfy seating position. It's taken out only in the rain, with good wet weather tyres such as Pilot Road 3's. Also good for cold weather as it has heated grips. It also has a pillion seat and pegs.

Each bike has a role, so they have their uses, and they're used when the weather dictates.

Its pretty easy. I have 4 Bikes now and TBH I just ride what I feel like. The Scooter ( Rolling Eyes ) Gets used for commuting, the GSXR gets used for fun and when I fancy something faster and the new Sachs will get used through out winter (if it lives that long). The 4th is the trackbike im half way through building which isnt road legal.

Think 2 is ok but 3's a crowd...i have 2 x zx6r's, B1s, one road, one track for last couple of years which was fine....last month bought a Gixxer K7 track bike and thats been keeping me busy (as i crashed it first time at the track due to brakes failing Confused )

Probably, will sell the road ZX6r as tbh i really don't use it as i have a 135cc scooter for buzzing around town.. just need to get around to cleaning it and changing brake pads, then actually advertising it ... maybe tomorrow Rolling Eyes ..mrs keeps bitching about the space as well Neutral

It seems time will tell then. I couldn't afford to run both at the moment so currently the hornet is uninsured. For winter I have the car... I will eventually insure the hornet again, I miss it. I think I'll use the r6 for rides without pillion and fun times and the hornet for pillion rides and day to day use I.e commuting.

Recently been put in a similar position myself...

Bought the ZZR and insured it, meaning my CG is still mot'd, tax'd, insured...

I use the ZZR for everything but recently started using the CG for worse weather and commuting to work as it's only 3 miles ish each way.

Cheers,

Steve.

I should be getting my RXS back off my friend who has been learning on it, in September. I'll then be rebuilding the thing (it really needs it) over the winter.

In March I plan on having the Bros as my day to day commuter, the RXS as a cheap toy and maybe some commuting and a newish ZZR600 (or something similar) for weekends, rides with the girlfriend and distance.

Now to find out how much it'll cost to insure that lot Razz

4 bikes at the moment. One restoration project, one for foul weather, one for dailly ragging and my best one for summer cruising. Insurance is separate on each (bit stupid really) but as I'm ancient, not too expensive.

All of my bikes are in top condition and cost me £12k+ to buy so I just haven't bought a new car in the past 5 years, which I would have done if I didn't have the bikes.
