Right, Scenario:
Driving up a main road at night. Opposite lane has stationary traffic, with another row of parked cars on the kerbside.
Moped (not a pizza delivery guy) is filtering said lane (in the opposite direction to me), and as he passes a car, the car has stopped to let an addison lee mini cab out (this minicab was parked). The minicab sees the space, and wishes to join my lane, so continues to do a U-turn. Only thing is he does it with violent speed and swings out, smashes into the filtering moped. I see the entire thing.
I pull up blocking the minicab which is now across the road and blocking traffic. Moped rider has hobbled off to kerbside, before I could tell him not to move. I tell the minicab driver not to move the car. He proceeds to move it, and I get stern and almost shout at him not to move. I then take out the phone and continue to take photographs of the accident.
By now there is an ambulance with blues and twos on (by chance. But the ambulance hasn't reached us yet because of the traffic)
Now I realise the driver of the cab isn't on his own, and was actually being seen off by a huge group of friends/relatives. Driver and said relatives are Somalian.
The rider is now sitting in the road, clearly hurt, behind the minicab, Blocking the minicab from reversing into the gap and clearing the road. So one of the Somalian Buddies, literally drags him to the kerb. I went absolutely apeshit and screamed "DON'T FUCKING TOUCH HIM! LEAVE HIM THERE YOU FUCKING IDIOT! YOU'RE GOING TO HURT HIM!"
ambulance now reaches us, abandons their previous call after getting another ambulance on the case, and tells me they will deal with this accident.
-----------------------
The issue:
I am asian, srilankan to be precise, and the moped rider looked indian. The big group of somalians started getting angry at me because I was taking photos and generally documenting the accident. I hear insults and people calling me a "filthy arab".
This pisses me off no end, but I don't rise to the bait.
My question is, I am more than willing to be a witness for the moped rider, but will my statement be weakened by the fact that I am a closer race to the indian moped rider? Can the Somalians play the race card? try and claim I must be related? Or that my witness statement is somehow unreliable as I will apparently be biased towards someone of closer racial background to myself? If they did will this have any effect whatsoever in court.
I couldn't believe the audacity of these people. The poor moped rider was in shock, and clearly hurt, and they're fucking dragging him around. I wanted to lamp them. They were getting really aggressive with me, telling me to go away and they'll deal with it etc. Saying that they weren't going to run away so i didn't need to give Mr Moped my details. |

Take a step back.
Any claims the other side make with regard to racial bias, you can fire straight back at them, so it all cancels itself out.
In any case, it's all irrelevant; if you're providing a witness statement, with photographic evidence, the insurance companies will slug it out between them to decide who is liable.
I doubt it will get anywhere near a court, especially if the police weren't called (which should probably have happened, as there was an injury involved).
ETA I've done a few repairs on cars that have been involved in collisions with Addison Lee vehicles and I've always invoiced AL themselves.
I don't know if they self insure, or if they just don't put up a fight (a couple of the claims seemed to be more in favour of the AL driver) but yer man might have got lucky and they will just pay out, almost no questions asked. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

There quite a few mini cab companies where I live that has use Somali drivers. They are frightening!
I hate to stereotype and I presume they all have to have british licences to drive mini cabs, but they are mad/bad drivers. Maybe they are on such shit wages they have to drive like maniacs to make ends meet.
My wife used one and he started to use a mobile phone (no hands free) and when she asked him to stop she got a load of abuse and came home very upset. (she wouldn't tell me for ages which firm as she didn't want me going round there in case 'they killed me' ) ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

He was probably in the country illegally and hadn't even taken a test in the UK. Sounds like a typical London chain of events...What's needed is for the government to clean up the London cab offices and courier trade properly, really get heavy on fining these bastards. |

Of course it doesn't matter what race you are - it's your statement that counts. So long as the moped was going less than 15mph which is what's regarded as a reasonable filtering speed then he's in the right and the onus was on the cab to check before making the maneuver.
You should have called the cops to the scene though, especially given that there was an injury, since they deal with injury accidents differently to non-injury ones. It should still be reported to them within 24 hrs, it's an offence not to. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

I find for some reason the worst drivers seem to be those who drive black cars, I googled the psychology of the colour 'black' and hit this...
"Psychology of Color: Black
Black is the color of authority and power, stability and strength. It is also the color associated with intelligence (doctorate in black robe; black horn rimmed glasses, etc.) Black clothes make people appear thinner. It's a somber color sometimes associated with evil (the cowboy in the black hat was almost always the "bad guy"). In the western hemisphere black is associated with grieving. Black is a serious color that evokes strong emotions"
So, people who choose black cars crave power & authority, think they're smart-arses, and revel in feeling 'evil'. Explains a lot. ____________________ They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa, hey-hey,
the men in white coats are coming to take me away.
