Turns out the smoking problem on my dads Z1000 is from filling and running with diesel Laughing

So besides the fouled plugs, what else is likely to be buggered? Cat, injectors?

Drain it all down and fill it with lovely fresh petrol. He might be lucky.

TBH, it's unlikely to have broken anything, though it might puff a bit of smoke for a short while after start up.

I wouldn't bother unless I was sure they needed replacing. I might be tempted to give them a clean but the truth is, I'd give it a good chance to sort itself out before I started buggering about like that Very Happy

should be fine i used to race cars around the field a few times with a diesel/petrol mix in a petrol car, apart from taking a lot to start the thing it would run ok once warmed up, though mk3 escorts dont have catylic converters.....

Wouldn't worry about the cat. There's no emissions test on the bike MOT. If you're really worried about it, chuck it in the bin and buy a decat pipe. Thumbs Up

As they others have said really, drain and refill. Should be fine after a good thrash.

It's doing things the other way around that you want to be worried about.

Yea as above just fill it up and see how it runs, as long as it runs ok after a tank of decent fuel thru it don't worry, It may have fouled the plugs a bit but they should self clean with some decent load on the engine Thumbs Up

Hi

Would be a bit tempted to put new plugs in. Maybe a new fuel filter. Although both I wouldn't worry too much about.

However I would be a bit concerned about a lambda sensor in the exhaust (assuming the Z1000 has one).

All the best

Keith

Should thrown an engine fault light if it had failed.

Depends how it has failed. With just the single lambda probe it needs to be way out of spec for the ECU to know about it.

More advanced injection system will have a 2nd lambda probe after the cat and so has far more chance of spotting something up due to mismatched readings.

All the best

Keith

no FI warning lights, and only the one lambda sensor. will keep an eye on things, will check the plugs after a few tank fulls have been run through

I did it on mine about 2 months ago, drained the tank and it took about 10 minutes running before it felt 'normal' not a problem since.

Change the oil, diesel is a lot more detergent, and penetrative.

Run it on petrol first.
