I told the shop assistant that was helping me choose that my budget was £100. After showing me all the helmets under £100 in my size, he then went on to some higher priced helmets at £150. He said he would do me a deal and sell it to me for £120. In the end I didn't buy it because my budget really was strictly £100, besides, it didn't fit as well.
Anyway it got me thinking, are the prices in motorbike shops 'set'? I'm after some RST Razor leather trousers but the prices are just slightly out of my budget. Yeah you know where this is going... |
Hein Gericke are pretty keen to push you into buying the pricier item, I only went in there for the sake of the January sales and picked a sale helmet only for them to suggest that a more expensive £200 nolan might be better! I was only going to buy the £60 Box as it was reduced from a £100.
He didn't seem to get the fact that I was getting a sale 'bargain'
was the relevant point and assumed I had bottomless pockets.
Can't say about haggling, just try it I'd say, tell them you can't quite stretch to the asking price. |
Yeah I noticed that, he saw me taking a good look at the gloves section (about 10 minutes), and when I was at the till paying for my helmet he asked me, "are you sure I can't tempt you into any gloves?". They seem pretty keen to push their stuff onto you. Next time I go in I'm going to ask them when their next sale is (I genuinely want to know) and then go on to say their Razor leather trousers are just out of my budget. Maybe it will work |

I shop at my local Hein Gericke, and always get deals.
My leather jacket was 170 and I've paid for it 135,00.
Week later I went in for rain overall at 45, I also got stuff for my jacket to waterproof it at 6.95 and paid 41 for the hole lot.
Some time later I was after gloves, I had 50 pounds on me, I've tried all HG gloves up to 50 and didn't like nothing really, then I've tried alpinestars at 60 and liked them but they were out of my budget so the fella said he will make them 50
Pretty much, anytime I go, he always gets me sorted ____________________ " Four Wheels Move The Body, Two Wheels Move The Soul "

I only buy in HG when their deals are on. Even then, you're paying just about the right retail price. So, yes, they will be pliable but it depends on who you get in the shop. Just say that most folks on the forum have got a few quid off and you'll look like a tube if you don't. He/she will laugh and give you a deal |

i would say they can be haggled....in most chain stores (JD, ASDA, B&Q) the checkout staff can give you a 10-20% discount no questions asked i presume at a bike shop this is the same. no when you thinnk 20% of a £200 helmet is £40 off so its just £160 now it kind of works out a big chunk off.......Also the bikes ive known lots of people to buy bikes and haggle a few exhaust, helmet, tank bags and all sorts.... it really depends on how much they value you, the person who serves you and the store.
I braught a PS3 the day they came out and asked for a discount got a free game (spider man3) a t-shirt and a keyboard that slotted onto the pad...got home wacked em all on ebay made just about £100....basically got £100 off my console.
Also helmets often come in damaged box's from shops make clear its a presant and you dnt know if you want it now the box is damaged...might get offered a discount.
My step dad also braught a can, and ordered sprockets from street bike in halesowen and the woman gave me a key chain that should be £4 because i was charming :') ....so yeah you can haggle anywhere and its always worth it if you can. |

I haggled a top box and chain/lock when I bought my YBR. Also haggled a free pinlock, discount on gloves, boots and trousers when I bought my gear (bought all that at once). I think they gave me a can of chain lube as well. I would try - you have nothing to lose, but everything to gain. |
