I went to Hein Gericke today to buy some RST leather pants. On the way I was listening to the news on the radio and picked up something vaguely about a teenage being killed in a road collision about 10 minutes away from me. I'm like 'oooooh shit' but didn't think much more of it. Anyway, I buy the leathers, go home, open Facebook and see R.I.P. Ben spammed pretty much everywhere. I don't know the guy and didn't know what happened, so I looked up his name in the local newspaper.

While searching, I find another article of a biker who was killed on the same day!

Absolutely gutted. Two guys both so young killed in separate motorbike accidents on the same day. I think the fact that they both live less than 10 minutes from me, and both around the same age just brings it home that it could happen to any one of us. It actually made me question, should I be biking? But life is full of dangers, huh.

It's bad but everyone has their time coming may sound heartless but that is what I believe. You can try and prevent it as much as you can using the correct speed and armoured clothing but their is no way to prevent death in the end till a later time.

Also looking at the following quote from a comment on the second "clicky" there was another motorcyclist that crashed.

Quote:
“this is the 3rd bike accident that happened yesterday, my good friend Dan Martin R.I.P:'( and a another young lad ben madden, all i say is condolences to the family and friends, R.I.P all 3 of you! this should be a lesson to all young riders, bikes are very dangerous!”

RIP both guys, and sympathies to their families and friends........but we must all make our own decisions/ take our own risks in making our lives the adventure they should be.
Go careful out there....but if you enjoy your riding, then don't deny yourself the pleasure

Always hits home when we here of a fellow biker down.

When I come back from Beaulieu Bike show, the Motorway (m3) was closed, being on a bike, i got to the front. A fellow biker hit by a car. Air Ambulance landing. Never looks good.

Puts you in place. Watching the Road Surface more and other cars more. Being that extra bit cautious.

(Yes I always watch other road users and the road surface, you just watch them that bit more)

Unless you know them (or know someone that knows them) it's just a statistic. People die every day, in various ways; sure, it sucks for the people who knew and loved them, but in reality, how "gutted" are you really if you had to go searching newspapers and farcebook for the details to be gutted about?

The Oxfam ads showing little Mbongo having to walk 3000 miles daily for a drink of piss whilst carrying his mother and 5 sisters must have you suicidal.

+1. Im not an insenstive bastard but a guy got killed by a train today, some womans in court for killing her two kids, and did you hear about the bird that got chopped up and left in a bath of sand? It all sucks, and if i knew em i'd be devestated but otherwise, whilst its a bit shit, it isnt putting me off the inbetweeners reruns.

I don't mind hearing about it, everyday if need be, does help remind yourself of dangers, ie, what if we heard of none of these deaths, could it fuel complacency and a fasle sense of security.

I don't like the i'm gutted for them etc etc. RIP for strangers is ok and polite, all else is bullshit to me.

Not to sound overly harsh, it's silly season, lots of people getting out on their bike because of the nice weather some haven't ridden for a while and may be rusty, just take it steady and barring a bus running you over hopefully everyone gets home safe.
