Do I need the exup valve on my zx10r? Will there be any advantage to removing it?

Also, what about the cat in the exhaust and mid pipe? Will I get any gains by removing the cat and putting a different mid pipe on there?

Any help is appreciated as I keep reading conflicting things on Google.

buy a full system and map it. if it's anything like the 636 of the same age it's a noise regulations thing. the cat is obviously emissions.

obviously removing without remapping will cause a few flat spots, so get a PC3

Replace the ENTIRE exhaust system including downpipes etc with a new system which removes the catalytic converter and EXUP valve, then take it to a professional motorcycle shop that has a dyno and makes custom maps, usually costs about £30 for a custom map I believe.

It will run MUCH better, this is exactly what has been done to my GSX-R1000, with the full Akrapovic race system it gained 8bhp at the rear wheel over stock. Thumbs Up.

Stick a 1 on the front of that and you'll be getting close.

EXUP Valve is the Yamaha system, but I know what you mean. Razz No advantage just by removing. May find you gain some top end and lose a touch of bottom end after it's mapped.

Again very little gain without mapping, a larger gain across the range with mapping.

The best way for big power would be a full Akra system and a race air filter, however from memory you were after a slash fit can anyway?

I'm not too fussed on a few extra HP, was just told it would improve the sound of the exhaust note by removing it. Would like it sounding meaner than it does and a slash cut / race fit type exhaust would help too Very Happy

Hi

Suspect you will gain a few at the top end and lose a few in the mid range (probably giving you a flat spot in the mid range).

No doubt the valve does help with keeping the noise down at low and medium revs though.

All the best

Keith
