Yes it would, i easily done 400 in a day on a 125.

The real question is "will you be able to do 300 miles in one day on a 125"

Standard answer: get any 125 commuter bike, pass your test, sell the commuter and get a bigger bike.

£121.50 to pass theory, mod 1 and mod 2. It's insignificant compared to the cost of the plastic trinket you're thinking of spunking on.

300 miles is a hell of a long ride/drive, and when you have to stick to A roads, and can only just do the speed limit, it makes it that much longer.
So I agree in saying that you should do the test route. If you were talking about a commuter 125, then sure, I would recommend any Honda 4 stroke. But seeing as your talking about a plastic fantastic R125, which fetch a lot more money, there's no reason why you can't spend the money on a test and a bigger (and cheaper) bike which will not only be more comfortable as high speeds but will be more fun.

For your budget amount on the YZF you could pass your restricted licence and buy a bike that would overtake the YZF flat out, in first gear. Cool You'd still have change to buy all your gear, insurance etc.

The YZF is a nice looking bike but that is all.

+1

Honestly, the R125 looks pretty but there are far better bikes for that kind of trip. Even a poverty-spec 500 commuter with a small screen would be preferable or even better a GPZ500. They are excellent bikes and you could pick one up for a fraction of the price of an R125, do your test through DAS and get some seriously good gear to keep you comfy over the journey. Spend whats left on petrol and insurance (which won't be much anyway)

All the more reason not to buy the YZFR-125, as soon as you pass your test you'll be wanting to upgrade the bike, but you would be stuck with the finance.

The YZFR-125 is very expensive for a 125 (£4100 new in my local dealer), if you need to borrow money for a bike you'd be better off getting a loan from a bank, passing your test and getting something cheaper (& bigger) which would be more "suitable" to your needs.

+ another 1
Was looking in Buster's window, other day with Snowie, having a fag, before we set off after looking at lids.
Side by side in the window was an R125 and a Hyosung 250
Looks, (to my aged yes) were almost identical.
BUT sticker price on the Hysosung was enough LESS than the Yam to pay for four day intnsive training course, and tests, AND have change to buy some bling....
Ie for the same money, you could get licence and have a 33bhp complient bike to ride on it, that was actually moderatly fast as well as looking fast.
And 650 is not THAT much more expnsive and restricted for 33bhp licence a LOT more to brag about than an over priced, under performing 125, with a loonie plate stuck on the side
But up to you really....
Whatever you do, GET TESTS....
Them is the only thing holding you back from ALL biking has to offer, sooner you get them done, sooner you have 33bhp restrict period counting down in your favour, rather than CBT cert validity counting down against you.......

Have to agree, I went down the 125 route, mostly because I was given a 125, but if I had the choice the money spent on the 125 I could have done my DAS and bought something like an ER5, not the fastest thing in the world, but will do a decent 80-90 ish, enough grunt for moving around traffic, and a really good learner bike, plus they can be picked up for £500, and if you drop it, oh well bits are cheap.

I used to have a Hyosung 250 and travelled all over the country on it. It's fast enough to piss most cagers off and cruises easily on the motorway at 80 Mph. Top speed is around the 100 Mph mark but the beauty of it is that I was always getting 70 - 80 Mpg out of it.

As Mike says if you want finance then better off taking a bank loan out as generally it's not secured on the bike and you'll be able to pay for your tests and gear out of it.

Passing your tests will give you a massive sense of achievement and open the biking world up to you. Just because you have a full licence doesn't mean that you have to get a big bike......my last 2 bikes have been a 125 (admittedly a derestricted smoker) and a 250, before that I had a 600.

There was a couple of chavs around Weston on new YZF's who constantly tried to race me on my '93 NSR 125R (They always seemed to be leaving McChavs when i was leaving work). There was only one way that ended on numerous occasions and it wasn't with their shiny, sharp looking new bike passing my 93 NSR Twisted Evil
