Ok sorry if this has been done before and I missed it?

Heres the thing..... I`ve just finished putting a bike back together and I think it`s roadworthy, so I want to get it MOT`d.
However you cant ride a bike to the MOT station unless it`s insured?
The bike is not mine, it belongs to mine daughters boyfriend.
My insurance company (Swinton) said that as I was not the owner of the bike they will not let me insure it???, even though I have his permission to use it and insure it .
He is even prepared to let me give them his contact details so they can check that I am legit, but they are just not interested.

So mighty BCF........ do any of you know of an insurance company that might be able to help me or are all insurance companies the same in that you cannot insure a bike you dont actually own?

Or is this bike going to have to visit the shop on the back of a trailer Sad Evil or Very Mad

I seek your advice and wisdom mighty BCF

if you have your own insurance policy it might state you can ride anybike that is owned by someone else third party only, i know my dads does as he was going to do this for me but he hated the bike so came home Laughing just check your insurance

Plenty of insurance companies will let you insure someone else's bike.
If one doesn't like it, take your business elsewhere!

Usually followed by the caveat that it must be insured by the owner, and be ridden with the owners permission.

Why can't your daughter's boyfriend just insure it and ride it himself?

My brother insures my bike under his own policy.

Bike still belongs to me... and im also insured on it.

You just choose the option "Who does the bike belong to" and select the correct one.. brother/spouse/father/random jew

He`d have a hard job , I`ve got the bike here in East Anglia and he lives in the midlands.
Anyway I dont want him riding it, he might break it Shocked and I`ve just fixed it Evil or Very Mad Smile

UPDATE! blimey Surprised Swinton must read this website, cos they just agreed to insure it Smile

I tried Churchill, Carol Nash, & Bennetts and none of them would help me (w*nkers)
That`s thier loss, because my money has now gone to Swinton.

I`ve never made a claim and I`m a householder, you`d think that it would indicate that maybe there`s some stability in my life and maybe just maybe I could be trusted to insure a bike I dont own.
F*ck you Bennetts Middle Finger
F*ck you Carol Nash Middle Finger
F*ck you Churchill Middle Finger
I feel a little bit insulted by thier insinuation that it is a bit suspect I want to insure a bike I dont own Confused Evil or Very Mad

Rant over now Smile I`ll climb off my soapbox Thumbs Up
